MembersAppointed to Skills Development Scotland Board

The Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills John Swinney, today announced the appointments of Christine Pollock CBE, Elizabeth Corcoran, Nazim Hamid and Carol Evans as Members of the Skills Development Scotland Board.

MEMBERS

Christine Pollock CBEis a former Director of Learning and Leisure Services in North Lanarkshire Council. She was a Member of Sir Ian Wood’s Commission for Developing the Young Workforce and is currently a Member of the Programme Board for DYW and a Member of the Scottish Advisory Board for Outward Board. In 2012 Christine was awarded a CBE for services to education and in 2013 was awarded a Fellowship to SQA. She was previously a Co-Opted Member for Skills Development Scotland

Elizabeth Corcoranis a qualified accountant with over twenty years’ experience at Board level in both public and commercial sectors. Her previous roles have been with AstraZeneca, Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Student Loans Company and recently The James Hutton Institute. She has substantial experience of Strategic Planning, Finance, Governance, Risk and Change management. Beth also has experience as a Non-Executive Director. She is currently a Board Member of Glasgow Prestwick Airport where she chairs the Audit and Risk Committee and sits on the Capital Investment Committee. Beth is also a Member of the Investigation Committee at the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

Nazim Hamidbrings over 20 years’ experience and expertise across the public and voluntary sector. Having worked from grassroots community groups to hold professional positions in local government and notional agencies. A dedicated advocate of civic responsibility and volunteering, Nazim continues to volunteer with local community groups and agencies to promote equality, diversity, community empowerment and supports initiatives which seek to strengthen transparency in public service provisions. In her professional capacity she brings to this role her knowledge on organisational development and information management legislation.

Carol Evanshas over 20 years’ experience of education, stakeholder engagement, strategic leadership and leading and driving change in complex organisations in the Private, Public and third sector and worked at a strategic level in AstraZeneca, Kellogg’s, PepsiCo, Reckitt Benckiser, Royal Pharmaceutical Society, a national start up and currently Bield Housing and Care. She has been a member of several boards and government advisory groups and supported the development of regulations, policies and procedures around education and workforce development nationally. She has been involved in provision and management of learning and development and talent management throughout her career including being Global Clinical learning and Development director at AZ where she had had responsibility the talent development of 6000 people worldwide. As a member of global executive teams been responsible for audit and ensuring the highest standards of corporate governance.

APPOINTMENTS

The appointmentswill be for four years,with Christine PollockCBE, Elizabeth Corcoran and Nazim Hamid beginning on 15th January 2018 to14th January 2022 and Carol Evans on 22nd January 2018 to 21 January 2022.

Theappointments are regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland.

REMUNERATION

The appointments arepart-time and attracts a remuneration of £260 per day for a time commitment of two days per month.

OTHER MINISTERIAL APPOINTMENTS

Elizabeth Corcoran is a Member of Glasgow Prestwick Airport for which she receives remuneration of £331 per day, for a time commitment of 24-28 days per annum.

Christine Pollock CBE, Nazim Hamid and Carol Evansdo not hold any other ministerial public appointments.

POLITICAL ACTIVITY

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.

Christine PollockCBE, Elizabeth Corcoran,Nazim Hamid and Carol Evans have had no political activity within the last five years.
