Staten Island’s First International Dance Festival
Saturday, August 12th, 2006 in Tappen Park, Stapleton at 12 noon
Staten Island, New York: Tuesday, August 1, 2006: Century Dance Complex (CDC) and the Kids N Teens (KNT) program are commemorating diversity in the world of dance and in the Stapleton community by hosting Staten Island’s First International Dance Festival. We are pleased and ready to share our love for dance with our neighborhood and all of New York City. This is a free event!
From the classics to the street, from ancient to cutting edge, an array of dance presentations will be offered. Hip hop, bellydance, contemporary, tango, tap, ballet, modern, african and other genres to be performed by professionals and students. Featured performers include: American Creative Dance, members of Bellyqueen Dance Theater, Nanette Bearden Contemporary Dance Theater, Dance2XS, and Fusion Dance Company. Live music performances by Pete List, JayDange, Miss Chamillion and others. A list of some of the participants’ websites is below.
The CDC Kids N Teens will celebrate its first season by giving the community a taste of its accomplishments as well. Students who have successfully completed the KNT summer 2006 dance program will perform alongside their guest artists as part of an introductory professional experience. Also, there will be a dance competition for younger members of the audience to win a free semester in the KNT program.
Tappen Park is a red brick Victorian commons with plentiful tree shade in the heart of Stapleton, one and one half mile from the ferry at Bay and Water Streets. The 74 and 51 buses leave from the ferry and stop at the festival – a 7 minute ride. Buses coordinate with ferry arrivals. The ferry schedule can be accessed at mta.info.
