PREZ

Our first meeting at Donato’s went very well with 23 members there and some of our new members from the South Bay area. The only problem I heard about was the parking so come early and carpool if you can. At the February meeting we will pass out copies of our proposed calendar for your approval.

We had a very productive Calendar/Board Meeting at my house on Friday the 27th and thank you very much to those members who attended for helping us plan a very exciting new year of activities for you.

Sadly I received an email that day from Fred Klicka resigning his position on the Board. He is very involved with his church and needs to devote more time to that. Thank you Fred and we look forward to still seeing you at meetings and on the trail. At that Board Meeting Susan Blackmon stepped up to run for that vacant position and we will take any nominations from the floor at the next meeting.

Of course the first campout coming up is our Annual President’s Weekend campout and Jody Carnevale is heading that up and there is more information later in this newsletter. I understand that there was only one corral left, so be sure to check before you drive down! We will be

sharing the club house with Lakeside “Frontier Riders again.

In March there is Vallecitos Days sponsored by Ramona Trails Association and many of us have attended this exciting event in the past. There is a flyer in this news-letter and contact Terry Jorgensen if you have questions at 760-789-5185. Also enclosed is your new membership applications so if you have not done so, please print one out and bring it with you to the next meeting or mail it to Mary Ann Cummings. Her address is on the application.

Tammy Cooker from Descanso Junction announced that due to Health Department requirements and other commitments, she will be unable to run the Chuck wagon for us but she will be happy to help with catering. She made a great breakfast for our ride and it was very reasonably priced! Thank you Tammy!

Marge Pachon and I will once again be showing off our culinary talents with our Annual St. Patty’s Day Ride on March 17. Terry Jorgensen has stepped up again to take us to a new location, Ramona Grasslands!

Happy Trails to you! Jan

Pine Valley Mountain Riders Minutes from General Meeting January 11, 2012

Meeting was called to order at 7:00pm by President, Jan Herrera. We had the Pledge of Allegiance and there were no minutes for December.

New Members:

Jan Allen reintroduced herself and Jeanne Williams is new to the group and she is from South Bay. Bill Bower is from Alpine and all were welcomed.

Christmas Party Report by: Diana Clark Good food and good music. Marci Jones will check and see if we can get reservations for a different week next December. We would like the party to take place closer to Christmas.

Treasurer Report:

The Treasurer was not present at this meeting. Jan did share the information she did have. As of December 1, 2011, there was a beginning balance of $4,241.00 and ended with $1.935.86. This information is subject to amendment.

Reports of Special Committees:

Membership Committee plans for this Sunday are in place. Continental Breakfast will be served before the ride. In saddle at 9:30 a.m. Members must sign up again and be current before going on the ride due to insurance requirements. There will be a catered breakfast afterward by Tammy Cooker. Susan Blackmon stepped up tp be Trail Boss again.

Old Business:

Was the donation letter and check sent to TEACH? Either Jody or Wendy present to confirm. Donation to CRISPIA: Larry Pustinger reiterated the members involved in the committee to work with the State Park have to decide on a project and then the money will be donated to CRISPIA as long as the project is used for equine facilities. Tammy Cooker reported the Health Department codes require a double sink and a hot water heater and water supply. She is still investigating the insurance issues.

New Business:

The Annual Calendar and Planning Meeting and fund raiser discussion will be held at Jan Herrera’s home on January 27th at 6:00 p.m. and it will be pot luck. All who are interested are welcome to come. Marci Jones has reserved the Town Hall for May 5th for the fundraiser. Tammy Cooker has some ideas to help us raise money and would like to help us if we still want to have the Carne Asada dinner. Presidents Day Campout will be Feb 17th-20th at Stagecoach Campground. The Vallecitos Ride is March 9, 10 and 11. Announcements:

Camp Lockett Ride February 25th and contact David Somerville. Sacred Rocks Reserve is now open for horse camping. There is an arena 250x120. There is enough room for 20-30 rigs in a cleared area. It is a dry camp but there is a water truck available. The cost is $8.00 per person and $2.00 per horse per night. There are trails as wide as a fire road. Trailer tie or bring portables. The reserve is located in Boulevard near the Golden Acorn casino. Gayla will be going out and checking it out again. She says the owner is willing to work with us on what we need for the horses. Susan Blackmon reports the Victorian Roses Ladies Riding Society will be hosting a Casino Night on June 9th at the Lakeside Rodeo grounds. Proceeds will benefit Saving Horses, Inc. There will be a silent auction and raffle.

Rene Hijar shared with the club that past member Gary Daniels, recently passed away and a lot of members attended his Celebration of Life with his wife, Geri Daniels in Apple Valley.

For the next meeting, Jan plans to have a video presentation by World Renown Horse Photographer, Robert Vavra, “Such is the Real Nature of Horses” and she will bring her Collection of Robert Vavra books to share.

Meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by:

Karen Richmond, Secretary

I have received and read the “Ride Rules and Trail Etiquette.” I also understand that the Pine Valley Mountain Riders ride in a variety of terrain. Horses and mules need to be in excellent condition and members who ride should be experienced trail riders. You may call the Trail Boss at any time for additional information not posted in the Newsletter. Remember, you ride at you own risk.

THE 6TH ANNUAL VALLECITO DAYS

March 9th, 10th and 11th 2012

Vallecito County Regional Park and Stage Station

37349 County Route S-2, Shelter Valley, California

The original Vallecito Stage Station will once again be opened to the public and filled with artifacts and displays that tell the story of this vital area and the people who lived there or passed through in the 1850’s and 1860’s.

This annual event is the result of a cooperative effort between California State Parks, San Diego County Parks, the Ramona Trails Association and the Backcountry Horsemen of California- San Diego Unit.

This year is the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War. We will be commemorating California’s Civil War history with a variety of activities for people of all ages. Equestrians will retrace part of the route of the Great Southern Overland Trail. Civil War re-enactors will retrace the march of the California Colum that traveled on the Great Southern Overland Trail from California to New Mexico. Mountain man and military re-enactors will have encampments set up for the public to tour and participate in. The public is encouraged to wear period-appropriate dress while enjoying all the festivities.

For more info, contact me at email or phone, 760.789.5185

Registration forms will be going out in early January 2012

Happy Trails, Terry
