TERMS AND CONDITIONS

RATE OF PAY - £21,520.20 p.a inclusive of allowances

METHOD OF PAYMENT -Monthly by Credit Transfer

ANNUAL LEAVE ENTITLEMENT -25 Days plus 8 Statutory Days.

N.B. Leave year is from 1 April to 31 March.

Therefore new appointees receive a proportionate entitlement when starting part of the way through the leave year.

HOURS OF WORK - 36 hours per week, as per agreed roster arrangements.

MEAL BREAK -30 minutes.

CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT -1.Subject to passing a Medical Examination by the Nexus Medical Officer, including Drug and Alcohol screening.

OCCUPATIONAL SICK PAY -There is NO entitlement to Occupational Sick

Pay during the first six months of employment.

After six months, employees qualify for four weeks full and four weeks half pay. This increases with the employee’s length of service thereafter.

PENSION -New employees entered automatically into the Local Government Pension Scheme (L.G.P.S.) unless the employee decides to “opt out”.

Contributions are 6% of Gross Pay. Nexus do recommend all new employees to take up membership of the scheme although it is NOT compulsory.

N.B. You must “opt out” if you do not wish to join.

TRADE UNION MEMBERSHIP -Nexus recommend that new employees should join an appropriate Trade Union - if they are not already a member of one of the unions covering Red Book Grade Staff.

Membership is NOT compulsory.

EMPLOYEE’S TRAVELPERMIT -Employees can receive a staff travelpermit which allows “free” travel on; the Metro system, most local bus services within Tyne and Wear County and certain services operating from Tyne and Wear outside of the County and vice versa; and the Nexus cross Tyne Ferry Service.

There is also a free travel facility on the British Rail service between Newcastle and Sunderland.

HOSPITAL SATURDAY FUND -Medical benefits scheme.

Contributions are currently £1.00 to £12.00 per week.

EMPLOYEE’S SOCIAL WELFAREEmployees may take up membership if they

SOCIETY -wish.

Contributions are currently 50p per week.

Activities - sporting, i.e. Golf, Cricket, Football etc and Social Events, Children’s outings etc.

SMOKING POLICY -No smoking allowed on Nexus premises.

DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY -Nexus aims to provide a safe and secure service for its passengers and a safe and secure environment for employees and others who may be affected, and therefore expects employees to take a responsible approach on the consumption of alcohol and the avoidance of substance misuse. Since alcohol/substance misuse consumed/taken in any quantity adversely affects work performance and can seriously impair performance, all employees must ensure that any alcohol/drug either medically prescribed or taken illegally does not interfere with their work duties.
