2017 MIDWEST HIGHLAND CATTLE ASSOCIATION (MWHCA) CATTLE SHOW – Single Point Show

FRIDAY, AUGUST 18th, 2017

10am EST – JUNIOR SHOW FOLLOWED BY OPEN SHOW

Check list:

1.  UP State Fair entries mailed to the UP State Fair Office with $6.00 entry fee and $10.00 stalling fee per animal entered, must be received by July 15th 2017.

a.  Michigan Exhibitors include RFID of each animal on that entry form. RFID is optional for out-of-state cattle.

b.  Out-of-State exhibitors include RFID or other official ID number (Orange Brucellosis Tag # or Silver Brite tag #)of each animal on that entry form.

c.  Out-of-state cattle must be accompanied by an official Interstate Health Certificate.

d.  If entering the UP State Fair Junior Classes on Tuesday, August 15th, include the entry form for those classes with an additional $2.00 per animal entry fee.

e.  Include The UP State Fair Fee Form with your payment to the UP State Fair.

2.  MWHCA Show entries must be accompanied by an additional $20.00 per animal entered, and emailed (preferred) to , or mailed to Pat White 1680 W. Santee Hwy, Charlotte, MI 48813: must be postmarked by July 15th.

3.  All cattle require proof of a negative BVD-PI test prior to unloading on the fairgrounds. Once tested negative, the animal is considered negative for life. Make sure this is an antigen (presence of virus) test and not an antibody (presence of protective titer) test.

4.  All out-of-state and MI lower peninsula Highland Open, Junior and Sovereign entries showing only on Friday, August 18th, must be on the grounds by 3 pm Thursday August 17th, 2017

5.  All Upper Peninsula Open and UP State Fair Junior (against all other breeds) class entries (Tuesday, August 15) must arrive between 8 am and 8 pm Sunday, August 13th.

6.  Release time for out-of-state and lower MI cattle is Sunday, August 20th at 4 pm. UP cattle are released at 5 pm.

The Fairgrounds are located at 2401 12th Avenue North, Escanaba, Michigan 49829. Animals should enter via gate 5 located on 9th Avenue North. Ask for directions to barn #16.

Entry and release times: Lower Michigan and out of state guests have been approved for a four day stay with cattle in place by Thursday, August 17th by 3:00 pm EST. All Upper Peninsula entries need to be in place for seven days and be in place by Sunday, August 13th by 5pm. Release time for UP cattle is 5PM Sunday and all others 4:00 pm EDT.

Entries need to be made directly with the UP State Fair with their fees. A duplicate entry needs to be sent to MWHCA UP Highland Cattle Show, c/o Pat White, 1680 W. Santee Hwy, Charlotte, MI 48813, with an additional $20 fee for each entry.

Premiums will be paid to all winners of the Open Highland Show by the UP Fair Authority as per their premium book. MWHCA will pay the premiums for the Junior Highland Show.

Follow all Health requirements listed in UP State Fair Premium Book. BVD PI test is required for all. Sawdust bedding is provided. A vendor with hay and straw is available, however please advise us on

your estimated needs.

UP State Fair Junior Show is Tuesday, August 15 at 9:00 am. The UP Fair Junior Breed Show is open to the World, except for the Market Animal Classes, which are only open to Michigan residents. If you choose to enter the UP State Fair Junior Show, however you will need to pay the entry fees, be 7 days at the fair and also register directly with the UP Fair in the other breed classes. UP State Fair Junior Show Entries are on a different entry form.

MIDWEST HIGHLAND CATTLE JUNIOR SHOW

(Not listed in UP Fair Premium Book)

1.  This Junior Show is affiliated with the The Midwest Highland Cattle Show at the UP State Fair and will be held on Friday, August 18th at 10:00 am.

2.  The juniors may show any registered animal and they do not need to have the animal registered in their name with AHCA. No bulls.

3.  Juniors must be registered with AHCA which is free and forms will be provided at the fair.

4.  If you enter the MWHCA Junior Show there is no additional entry or stalling fee as long as the animal is also registered for the open show.

5.  If you are showing in the Highland Open Show and the MWHCA Junior Show, you do not have to spend the entire week at the State Fair. You must arrive by 3:00 PM Thursday, August 17th.

6.  Age limits are the same 9 to 19.

7.  Send your entries For the Highland Cattle Junior Show on Friday only to MWHCA and not to the UP Fair.

8.  Premiums will be provided by MWHCA by the Danish System with Blue @ $14, Red at $12 and White @10 for the breeding show and the showmanship classes.

MWHCA Junior Show Breeding Heifer Classes:

1 - Intermediate Heifer Calf born Jan 1st 2017 or later

2 - Senior Heifer Calf born Jan 1st 2016 – Dec. 31st 2016

3 - Senior Heifer born Jan 1st 2015 – Dec 31st 2015

4 – Grand and Reserve Champions – 1st and 2nd place winners of the above three classes.

MWHCA Junior Showmanship Classes:

5 - Junior Exhibitor age 9 to 13

6 – Intermediate Exhibitor age 14 – 16

7 – Senior Exhibitor age 17-19

8 – Grand and Reserve champions - First place winners from above three classes.

Steer and/or Sovereign Classes to be announced.

We are offering our fair guests photo opportunities with Highland cattle during various times of the fair and you can volunteer your prize animal. Sign up at the fair.

Highland cattle parade on the fairgrounds is planned for Sunday early afternoon and we will need volunteers to walk their animals on a safe route, hopefully led by a bag piper. Kilts are optional.

A Complimentary Pasty Dinner will be provided on Friday after the show at 6 pm on the fair grounds for all Highland exhibitors. RVSP an estimated count in your group.
