Bellemore Shopping Center, LLC
3200 Nameoki Rd
Parcel ID: 22-2-20-08-15-402-001
The Chair introduced the Petitioner’s request to review the non-conforming Sign Ordinance and allow a non-conforming six (6) ft. by twelve (12) multi-color light emitting diode sign to be placed on the existing pole, located at 3200 Nameoki Rd. District Zoned C-5 Highway Commercial District.
Joe Phillips representative for Piros Signs came forth, introduced himself and stated Piros Signs would like to use existing pole and replace existing signage on premises advertising. Joe Phillips stated they wanted to modernize size and sign to an (6) ft by twelve LED sign.
Discussion followed. Members indicated that their feeling were requirements of pole signs and LED signs, worry about variance of sign and traffic being distracted by the 6ft x 12 LED sign. Mr. Willaredt read aloud the section of the City’s Sign Ordinance concerning what is allowed and what is not. He reiterated: (1). Pole signs are not allowed and (2) the proposal for the LED sign is larger than what is allowed by Ordinance. City Attorney Laura Andrews reminded them that this board and City has been trying to eliminate Pole signs.
Alderman Jackstadt came forth and stated last November 2014 a Business District Tax was passed for the Bellmore Shopping Center to improve the property for the outside, infrastructure and other parts of the facility. He feels the existing signs has more appeal than instead of proposed Garish type sign.
MOTION by Andy Mathes and seconded by John Janek to table and amend the Petition request and ask Mr. Phillips to bring back specifics for a monument L.E.D. sign and size within requirements of the City Ordinance ; then present his proposal at the next scheduled meeting to be held on September 3, 2015.
