Calhoun Cougars Track & Field Policies

1)  Attendance and Absences

a)  Athletes may have excused absences for the following reasons:

(1)  Personal illness with a note from a doctor/parent.

(2)  School-related functions.

(3)  Death/illness in immediate family.

(4)  Any other reasons will be excused/unexcused on an individual basis.

2)  Any workouts missed for the following reasons will be made up:

a)  No call or no show.

b)  For detentions, referrals or ISS.

c)  Being late to practice.

3)  No matter what the reason is for you being absent you must call and talk to one of the coaches or leave a message. The field house phone number is “940-369-2476.”

4)  The following is a list of coaches and the events that we will be working with this year:

(1)  Manny Mallam - Hurdles, 4x1 & 4x4 Relays, 7th Distance

(2)  Troy Thompson - Shot Put, Discus

(3)  James Vivian - Sprints, 4x2 Relay, High Jump

(4)  James Wilburn - Sprints, 4x2 Relay, Long Jump

(5)  Earl Chaney - 8th Distance, 4x2 Relay, Triple Jump

(6)  Nick Amendola - Pole Vault

5)  Practice and Meet times:

a)  Practices will be held at Denton High School unless specified by one of the coaches.

b)  7th Grade Practice times will be from:

A) A-days: 8:20a.m.-9:20a.m. B) B-days 7:30a.m.-8:00a.m.

c)  8th Grade Practice times will be from:

A) A-days: 3:10p.m.-3:40p.m B) B-days 1:40p.m.-2:40p.m.

d) No practice on Fridays.

e)  Athletes ride the bus to track meets and can leave after they complete their event.

f)  Also for track meets that are not at Denton High School athletes are allowed to leave with a parent/guardian after they have completed all their events. You will need to contact Coach Wilburn to sign your child out if you plan on taking them home before the meet is over. If not then the bus will bring everyone back to school where you will be able to pick them up approximately at 8:30p.m.

6)  All field events start at 3:30pm and the 2400m begin at approximately 4:00pm. All other running events begin following the 2400m.

7)  Host school can charge admission for track meets, but they may only charge: ADULTS $2.00 STUDENTS $1.00. However, at the district meet admission will be charged by the host school: Adults $4 Students $2. Only athletes and coaches are allowed on the infield during running events. All spectators are to be in the stands.

8)  DRESS

a)  Every athlete should have a Calhoun Cougar’s athletic shirt along with track sweats on meet days. Also, there will not be any jewelry worn at practice or meets.

b)  Athletes should be dressed out in the attire that the coaches hand out:

i)  Calhoun Cougar’s athletic t-shirt and shorts

ii)  Sweats top & bottoms

c)  Athletes will need to bring their own track spikes for practice and meets to run in if possible. I will have some that they can borrow, but the shoe sizes and amount of kids participating in a particular event might cause some to run in tennis shoes.

9)  Student-Athlete

a)  The athlete should be able to display high standards of social behavior, outstanding sportsmanship and a spirit of cooperation. Exhibits proper respect for those in authority (including teachers, coaches, administrators, and officials).

b)  Understand the importance of discipline and self-sacrifice in the development of a quality student/athlete. Understand the importance of the word “student” in the term “student/athlete.”

c)  Realize that participation in interscholastic athletics is a “privilege” that carries with it responsibilities to the school, team, student body, fellow athletes, and the community.

10) We are going to be ordering sandwiches, chips, and a drink for the team on meet days. The cost of the meal will be $5.00 for each athlete. In order for us to purchase the order on time we will need their money by Thursday 12:00pm. If there are any questions please free to contact myself or any of the other coaches.

11) Discipline

(a)  1st violation: Student will do extra conditioning.

(b)  2nd violation: Conditioning will be doubled.

(c)  3rd violation: Student will not be allowed to attend track meet.

12) Attached you will find the track meet schedule and location of where our meets will be held.
