What you need to do:

Choose an existing organisation Chinese organisation located in Zhengzhou in one of the following sectors (Retail, Manufacturing, Technical, Government or Professional Services). Please write the name and sector of your chosen organisation on the class list (Lecturer will advise). Each student must choose a different organisation to write his or her assignment. The organisations must be authentic.

It is highly recommended that you make full use of your textbook and understand that the chapters that you read for this assignment are also examinable in your final exam. Chapters 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9 are all helpful for this assignment – these are covered in class before your assignment due date. You actually can’t write this assignment without reading the supporting chapters in your textbook.

Please note – there is no right or wrong answer. You are assessed on your ability to critique and to apply theoretical models and information. Please view ‘Marking Criteria’ attached.

Important information:

As mentioned these topics are examinable in the final exam. Should there be a large discrepancy between your demonstrated knowledge in the written assignment and the exam (e.g. where the assignment mark is high and the exam mark is poor) – your exam paper and assignment mark will be reviewed and you run the risk of your assignment mark being relegated to a lower score. Your assignment mark will not be reviewed if your examination mark is higher than your written assignment mark.

The Topic:

Following a discussion with management at your chosen organisation and observation of the work environment (only if possible) evaluate the existing training in the organisation.

Outline the training that is currently undertaken in the organisation. Include who receives training, how often do they receive training (frequency), what is the trainingfor, how do employees receive training (modality), how is the training viewed by management and the employees, and how is training evaluated.

Discuss the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of the existing training.

Recommend and discussalternative training that could improve the organisations productivity. Link your recommendations with the organisations strategic vision or plan. Include in your recommendations the modality of training delivery and which employees should receive the training.

You must use either a theoretical model or qualify your recommendations with information from your textbook.
