Student Rotational Internship Program Position Description
Position Background
The George Washington University is seeking juniors, seniors and graduate students for a Rotational Internship Program. This paid internship program provides GW students with an opportunity to receive hands-on work experience while pursuing their degree. The program allows a candidate to spend 6-8 months working on a specific project in one office then rotate to another project for a varied work opportunity. The program also matches each intern with a mentor to aid in their learning and development through their work experience.
Interns who are selected to participate in the Student Internship Rotational Program (SIRP) are expected to work 20 hours per week on average. Scheduling is flexible, based on student schedule and availability, while also considering the normal business hours of the host department. This is a paid internship, with an hourly rate that will be commensurate upon experience and education.
This internship will consist of two separate projects. The first of which will begin this fall semester with the second beginning at the onset of the spring semester.
The project for the upcoming fall semester will be located in GW’s Budget Office. The intern will manage the annual fixed asset inventory process in its entirety and will oversee the tagging of all new fixed assets. Reporting to the Supervisory Accountant of Fixed Assets, the intern will coordinate the timing of the inventory processing conjunction with departments across the University who own fixed assets. This internship will also develop managerial skills as the intern will be supervising the work of 3 – 4 part time student employees who will assist in the tasks required to complete the inventory process. The intern should also be looking for ways to improve the inventory process for future cycles. This internship is for four months at the end of which the intern will complete a performance evaluation with his or her supervisor.
The following spring project will be located in GW’s Procurement Office. The intern will focus on ensuring the effective operations of GW’s newly implement iSupplyGW system. The iSupplyGW procurement system is designed to provide suppliers with the opportunity to register with GW, to respond to procurement opportunities posted by GW, and to access general procurement information issued by GW. The intern will work closely with GW supply partners to update information and guide suppliers through the registration process.
Participation in this comprehensive program will help prepare interns for multiple industries upon by developing leadership skills and functional knowledge that are applicable to career goals.
Responsibilities May Include:
v Coordinate scheduling of inventory process by working with various departments across the University.
v Coordinate tagging of all new fixed asset additions within 45 days of acquisition.
v Supervise 3 or 4 part time student employees making sure that they are completing their required tasks.
v Provide weekly progress reports to the Supervisory Accountant on the status of the inventory and fixed asset tagging.
v Overseeing data entry into the iSupply system
v Oversee iSupply help desk
v Contacting GW suppliers to ensure information is current
v Attend management strategy meetings
Required Qualifications:
· Pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree at GW, junior level or above
· Strong recommendation or reference from a Professor or previous employer
· Possess a basic understanding of accounting and financial terminology
· Ability to work as a self-starter and to manage others
· Excellent written and oral communications skills.
· Team player with ability to work with a variety of departments
· Preferred commitment of 15 - 20 hours per week, most of which must be during normal business hours
· Ability to travel to the Ashburn campus
· Successful completion of a background, academic and student judicial standing check
· Minimum GPA of 3.0
