Treasurers Report

Copies of the accounts were circulated by L Mumford, who advised of a small increase in the number of members to 25 but a slight drop in average attendance from 15.7% to 14.8% largely due to a low of 11 people attending Felixstowe Ferry. Guests also dropped from 41 to 22 with average attendance down to 18 from 21.5. The December meeting at Thorndon Park continues to be the most popular with 26 attending. Golf day costs were met by annual subscriptions, individual charges for the day and kind sponsorships for 3 of the meetings by Ian Piper, Phil Walsh & Phil Bird and Alan Littmoden. There was an exceptional cost for engraving this year but the society bank balance at the end of the year is sufficient to cover the golf day deposits for 2016.

In discussing the report it was agreed that:-

  • there would be no need for an increase in subscriptions
  • winners of each golf day would be asked to engrave their trophies at their own expense.
  • sponsorship of each event would be encouraged to cover cost of prizes. C Jones has already agreed to sponsor a golf day and P Walsh offered to sponsor April and K Baker a day to be agreed.
If any other members would like to sponsor, then please let the secretary know.

G Boyes offered his appreciation of all to Laurie for his continued support on the finances.

Secretary’s Report

2015 was a successful year for the society with good weather and reasonable attendance but with ‘core’ players attending so the emphasis again should be on recruiting new, long term members. Golf days for 2016

J Owens advised that the March day has been provisionally booked for Wednesday 9th March at Sundridge Park (east course) and as a winter deal offered only chili & a pint as the post golf meal but reasonably priced compared to summer rates. Thorndon Park also booked for Friday 2nd December. Other courses for which prices obtained and being considered are Abridge, Clacton, Hever Castle or Woodbridge (preferred) for 27 holes, Chelmsford, Kingshill and Wrotham Heath (Friday only).

K Baker and several others suggested Langley Park as another option.

It was agreed that:-

  • J Owens to select from proposed courses, Thursday preferred day.
  • format of day to continue as coffee & bacon roll, 18 holes and 2 course evening meal.
  • attendance at the 27 hole could be for just the afternoon 18 holes if need be.
  • Handicap system to remain as now.
