Uploading your AgentSheets Game to the

Scalable Games Arcade

Background Information

Your game was created using the AgentSheets program. In order to put your game on the web, we must convert the program into a format that the web can read. It’s similar to communicating some information to a person from China who doesn’t speak English. You would write down what you want to say. Then someone would translate it into Chinese. This same process needs to happen with your program, except the “language” is the AgentSheets format translated to the web format (called a Java Applet).

Three Things to Upload

We are going to upload 3 things to the online Arcade:

1.)our project folder (in the AgentSheets format)

2.)our applet folder (in the web format)

3.)an image file that will be the icon representing our game (in JPEG format)

Translating Our Game into a Java Applet for the Web

In AgentSheets, with your worksheet open, click the “Ristretto” button. (This word is a joke about Java Applets and Java coffee, since Ristretto is short shot of espresso. Silly programmers.)

Change the location it creates the Applet by clicking on the folderand selecting "My Documents". Put in a description. Then press the “Start” button.

Taking a Snapshot of our game worksheet to use as our icon

With the worksheet opened as the top window, hold down the "Alt" key (lower left side on
the keyboard), and at the same time hold down the "print screen"button (upper right side of keyboard). This takes a snapshot picture of our worksheet.

Open the Paint program: start menu - programs - accessories - Paint
Press "ctrl" - "v" to paste (or go to Edit - Paste)

Go to Save As and select the location “save in” to be your "MyDocuments" folder.

Name it the same name as your project.

Select "Fileof Type" - "JPEG" under the filename,

Zipping our Files to be smaller for uploading to web

Close AgentSheets and open "My Documents". We need to make the files smaller (also called "compressed" or "zipped") to upload them to the website.

Right click on theproject file - "send to" - "Compressed".
Do the same for the Applet file. Right click on the applet file -"send to" - "Compressed".
Do not compress the picture file.

Here’s how the zipped folders will look when you’ve compressed (zipped) them. The folders will appear to have a zipper on them.

Uploading our Files to the Scalable Games Design Arcade
