-Everyone member went around the room, introduced themselves, and shared their role in UISG

  • Revising Community Agreement (10 min)
  • Office Expectations
  • Lindsey Rayner explained proper office etiquette, including keeping noise down and maintaining a healthy work environment.
  • Lindsey Rayner also explained what counts as office hours and how to log them.
  • Email/Campus Partner Etiquette
  • Lindsey Rayner explained how to maintain good relations with anyone we email and to remain thankful and friendly.

a)President Simpson suggested UISGcould include a paper where everyone can write notes in case no one is here and someone visits. He also explainedthat the purpose of office hours is to maintain collaboration and organization, but also to remember that it’s always useful to maintain a flexible schedule.

  2. Lindsey Rayner reminded everyone how to speak to the media about UISG

a)Gustave Stewart: If we are asked by the media a specific question how would we respond?

(1)Lindsey Rayner and Vice President Sanchez explained that it would be best to include that what you’re discussing is your own personal opinion during the conversation, not on behalf of all of UISG.

(2)President Simpson also said someone in this situation can explain that they need to learn more information about the topic and then get back to them if they are unsure of how to respond.

  • Lindsey Rayner says summer was incredibly productive, and everyone is very happy with how well it went.

a)President Simpson added that this summer was one of the most productive in history, whether it be the addition of a new cambus route,the progress made on the Student Leader Training Program, or the amazing planning/videos the Communications Team completed. He also listed tabling/recruitment efforts for orientation and health and safety fair are as examples of the productivity.

b)Vice President Sanchez added that UISG hasn’t seen this much collaboration, and predicts that wewill see good results this year.

  1. All the members took time to write thank you letters to each other and campus partners that have we have worked with to assist on projects.
  • Rapid Fire Initiative Updates (15 min)
  • Summer Update
  • All the members go around and give updates on what their favorite projects in UISG have been and future plans.
  • Project Communication (5 mins)
  • All members broke into pairs and discussed what they have been working on and what they could use more help with.
  • Student Advocacy Tips (10 mins)
  • Members explain their thoughts about what this first week back has been like and any thoughts they have about how we should move forward.
  • Tristan Schmidt explained it’s been interesting getting adjusted to executive board, but it’s been awesome nonetheless.
  • Benjamin Nelson said defining what the expectations are for the year and being upfront is the goal for the coming weeks.
  • Jeremy Vogel shared that it may be hard to balance covering everything in half an hour with committees, and that trying to find a balance of whether or not to give more time can be challenging.

a)Lindsey Rayner responded that this will be a big conversation with the committee chairs.

  1. Logan Pillard said learning scheduling wise what would work and not work to plan for the future was a big part of this week.

a)Lindsey Rayner agreed, and added that other members should feel free to communicate if they ever feel school or other commitments are creating stress or problems and they can always try to alter their behavior to help.

  1. Tristan Schmidt shared that he went to visit with advisors that give me critical feedback and have campus partners to bounce ideas off of whenever he needed help.
  2. ApoorvaRaikwar added that learning how to efficiently email people was one of the most valuable things she has learned thus far in UISG.
  3. President Simpson said that one thing he had always appreciated it how open everyone is on what’s being worked on/expectations, and there’s no protectiveness and great collaboration.

a)Vice President Sanchez added that she felt very comfortable to even have the difficult conversations with any of the members, and was glad that this was the case because that makes our work even more productive.

  1. ConnorGronski said it will be important this year to work with committee chair and keep them in the loop, and it will avoid any problems and help to keep each other accountable!

  • Lindsey Rayner says she is open to any new suggestions for exec meetings and making sure they are efficient!
  • President Simpson agrees, and ends the meeting with encouraging words about the upcoming months.
