7/8 All-District Band Tryouts (2012-2013)
To: All students trying out for All-District Band
When: Saturday, November 17, 2012
Where: Warren Central High School
How much: $7.00 registration
(plus money for the concession stands if you get hungry)
Arrive at Warren Central High School around 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, 11/17/12. As you enter the front doors there should be signs posted to let you know where to go to sign up. Once you are ready to sign up for your audition time, go to the appropriate table and register (have your $7.00 ready). Make sure you sign up under your instrument for the 7/8 band! Registration is from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. ONLY. Try not to be the first one to audition - wait a little bit before you register. The auditions will begin around 9:45 a.m. When you register, you will receive a little card with your audition number on it. Don’t loose it – you will need it when you actually audition. They will call your audition number when it is time for you to audition – so be listening! There will be signs posted telling where to go to audition. Sometime before you audition, locate your room so you’ll know where to go when it is time. Also, while you are waiting to audition, practice a little in the designated area - but don’t overdue it to where you can’t play in the audition. As you enter the room to audition, they will tell you that you can play a few notes to get used to the room and then they will begin the audition with the scales. Be prepared to play any of the following scales: concert Bb, Eb, Ab, F, C, G, and the chromatic scale (some of which you don’t know yet – don’t panic; we’ll go over them very soon!) (percussion - you need to know the rudiments listed at the bottom of your audition music). After the scales, you will play all of the prepared piece (s), and then sight-read a short piece (we’ll practice doing this, too). Be sure to take your audition music with you!! After you have auditioned, you may leave or stick around to find out the results from Mr. Salmon or me. If you need to leave, that is very okay - I’ll call you if you make it. We hope to have the results by late afternoon, early evening - but remember you can leave whenever you are done.
If you have any questions at all while you are there, you can find Mr. Salmon or me or ask any adult and they might be able to help you. Good luck to all of you!!!
