OPTION 1STEP BOOK: The 3 Branches of Government (1 person only)
Directions
- Staple 3 papers to create book.
- Create title on top “THE CONSTITUTION” Make colorful and creative. Proper heading. No white on cover.
- Step 1: Label “Executive” Re-read the paragraph found on handout side without pictures onto the top portion of step book. Write a paragraph that puts it into your own words. Write another paragraph and use research to list the last four presidents, their political parties, and when they served as president. Draw a BIG picture (using all the space) on the bottom portion. Color nicely. The White House, Oval Office, President speaking, etc.
- Step 2: Label “Legislative” Write the paragraph found on same side of handout in your own words onto top portion. Write another paragraph and use research to find out who California’s two senators are, how long they have served, and their political party. Big picture bottom portion. Domed building, Meeting of many Senators/Representatives, etc.
- Step 3: Label “Judicial” Write the paragraph found on same side of handout in your own words onto top. Picture on bottom portion. Draw all Supreme Court Justices. No stick figures. Must be well-drawn. Use research to find who they are and label them.
- Step 4: Label “Checks and Balances” Write last paragraph on 246 in own words onto top portion. Picture on bottom portion.
- Step 5: Label “Federalism” Write last paragraph in own words on page 245 onto top portion. Copy exactly the Venn Diagram on p. 262 onto the bottom portion.
Project Requirements
Project has correct title, large labels written in ALL CAPS on each step, detailed pictures where required using all available space, neatly done on all parts. ALL WRITING ON TOP. ALL PICTURES ON BOTTOM. Nice coloring will receive extra credit.
OPTION 2 Step Book: Seven Principles of the Constitution(1 or 2 people)
1.Make step book.
2.Create title using the top of page 244. Make large, colorful, creative. No white.
3.Step 1: Copy “Popular Sovereignty” onto first step. Make neat, large, centered on step. Onto top portion of book, write “Who Gives the Government Its Power?” across the top. Then summarize the paragraph into your own words below that. Try to use all space. Ink or typed. On the bottom portion, have a large colorful picture that represents that principle. Use all space.
4.Step 2: Copy “Republicanism” onto second step. Write “How Are People’s Views Represented in Government” across top. Summarize paragraph. Use all space. Large colorful picture using all space.
5.Step 3: Copy “Federalism” onto third step. “How Is Power Shared?” across top. Summarize paragraph. IMPORTANT: Use the Venn Diagram from PAGE 262 (NOT page 245!!!)
6.Step 4: “Separation of Powers” on fourth step. “How Is Power Divided?” across top of inside. Summarize paragraph. Write another paragraph and use research to find out who California’s two senators are, how long they have served, and their political party. Use the diagram as a model for your large colorful picture that will use all space on the bottom portion.
7.Step 5: “Checks and Balances” on step. “How Is Power Evenly Distributed?” across top of inside. Summarize the second paragraph into own words. Use the “Checks and Balances” on top of page 261 as a model for your picture on bottom section. Include ALL information in chart and make sure to use three colors (one for each branch).
8.Step 6: “Limited Government” on step. “How Is Abuse of Power Prevented?” top of inside. Put the paragraphs into your own words. You may need to supplement that information with some research to make more clearly understandable. Large, colorful picture on bottom portion.
9.Step 7: “Individual Rights” on step. “How Are Personal Freedoms Protected?” top of inside. Paragraph in own words. Large, colorful picture at bottom.
