Protect your crop from early season stress
WHY SEED TREAT….
Have you ever thought about what the full yield potential is from a crop you are growing? Genetics have advanced in the last 10 years to bring us canola and wheat varieties that have the potential (given that all things go right) to reach 80? 90? 100bushels??
How do we help that crop get there? We have no hesitation about keeping weeds at bay or combating disease or insects and yet sometimes the smallest step is missed. Could that step help us towards a higher yield?
I think so. The seed you buy, whether it is canola or wheat or corn is the start of your crop; when yield potential is still 100%. So why not give it the care and boost it needs to get the season off to a great start. By protecting the seed from early stress, seed treatments help seed reach its full potential. Left untreated the seed is vulnerable to many negative stresses during establishment that can affect all stages going forward, and ultimately affect yield.
Seed treatments include fungicides and in some cases insecticides, as well as nutrient additions on the seed. Through their protection from soil and seed borne fungal diseases and insect attacks, the crop will have a chance at a relatively stress free emergence. Earlier and more even emergence, better stand establishment, larger roots systems with less damage and higher yields. A more even, healthy stand will advance at the same time, cover the ground faster and help compete with weeds, allow better herbicide and fungicide staging as well as swather timing.
Your crop already has to withstand too hot, too cold, too dry, too wet. Why not at least give it a chance to emerge and protect against all the things that can be controlled. Look at it as an insurance policy towards establishing the best crop possible.

Seed Primers
Seed Primers are nutrient based seed treatments that can, in most cases be added to your seed right along with your regular seed treatments.
Your seed first uses nutrition from within the seed in order to start germination. However, some seed can be lacking in internal nutrition. Most commonly zinc. Zinc is found in the embryo of the seed and plays a role in triggering germination. Once that role is fulfilled then phosphorus, calcium and other nutrients become more important. A nutrient primer allows you to apply the nutrient directly to the seed to make up for some of those deficiencies within the seed.
What does this result in? It should help in more even and faster germination, a more even stand, higher root mass and hopefully higher yield.
Research is still being done on these products so you definitely need to try it on your farm before doing a blanket application. There are seed analysis packages available to help you decide if the primers are a fit on your farm.
