CHRISTMAS IN THE COUNTRY

“Christmas in the Country” will be the theme for the 2016 Madison Area Chamber of Commerce holiday promotion.

Karin Moen and Amber Omland are co-chairpersons for this year’s promotion, with a committeeconsisting of Judie and Myron Rosendahl, Dawn Croatt, Traci Kemen, Nancy Kells, Maynard Meyer, Darlene Vaala and the Elementary Faculty.

“Gearing Up for Christmas” – Thursday, November 30th

The Chamber of Commerce is encouraging all businesses to decorate their store front with lights to enhance our street decorations. Businesses will be judged on Thursday, November 30th beginning at 5 pm. First place will receive $75.00 and 2nd place will receive $50.00. If your business is not open that evening, keep your display lights on until 6:30 to be included in the judging. Winners will be announced on Friday, December 2nd on KLQP.

Santaland

Christmas Parade –Sunday, December 10th

The annual Christmas Parade will be Sunday, December 10th beginning at 5:30 p.m.

This will be our 12thannual “Lighted Christmas Parade”. We had a good turnout for the parade last year and we are hoping for more entries this year. We are also planning on giving away 3 cash prizes to help encourage participation.

The theme will be “Christmas in the Country”. Maynard Meyer is this year’s parade chairperson.The parade will line up at the elementary school, turn south on 5thAvenue, turn west on 2ndStreet and then turn north on Main Street.We will end at the courthouse lawn for the lighting of the Tree of Hope followed by a short program and caroling.

Little Blessings will be serving barbeques, hotdogs and soup beginning at 5 pm until after the parade. This will be a fundraiser for them and will be held on the KleinBank Plaza. Hot chocolate and cider will be served by United Prairie Bank and KleinBank Plaza as well.

$100.00 Christmas Medallion

There will be a hidden medallion worth $100.00 in Madison Bucks to the first person that locates it. There will be daily clues given on KLQP and also posted in their window beginning on Thursday, November 30th and will continue until the medallion is found.

FREE Movies

The Grand Theatre will be showing free movies on the following Saturdays, December 2nd,9th, 16th and 23rd. Show time is 2 p.m. on the 2nd, 9th and 23rd. Show time will be 2:30 on the 16th (Santa Claus Day).

Christmas Baking Contest and Coffee Party - Tuesday December 12th

The annual baking contest and coffee party will be held Tuesday, December 12th at the Madison City Hall. Entry times are from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday evening, December 11th and from 9-10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12th with coffee and announcement of winners from 2-4 p.m. Judie Rosendahl will be chairperson and assisted by Traci Kemen. Categories will include elementary through sixth grade, junior high and senior high divisions, men and women ages 19-40, 41-60, 61-80 and over 80. The Silver Dollar Day drawing will also be held during the coffee party at 2:30, if the winner is present at the coffee party, they will receive a bonus of $25.00 in Madison Bucks.

Santa Claus Day - Saturday December16th

Santa Claus Day in Madison will be Saturday, December 16th. It will begin with a free lunch with Santa from 12 until 1 pm at the MMN Elementary School cafeteria for kids 12 and under served by the elementary faculty. Santa will enjoy lunch with the kids and pass out treats and prizes. Santaland will be open from 1 until 2:30 pm. A FREE movie will be shown at the Grand Theatre from 2:30-4:00 pm. Amber Omland and the Elementary Faculty will chair this event.

Beginning at 11:30 am in the small gym,kids 12 and under are encouraged to come and shop for a Christmas gift for Mom and/or Dad. This will be sponsored by the Madison American Legion Auxiliary and they will be on hand to help the kids shop and wrap their gifts up for them. Kids are encouraged to shop before or after having lunch with Santa. Donations will be accepted.

“Christmas in the Country”–November 30th - December 3rd

The Lac qui Parle Players will present “Christmas in the Country” at the Prairie Arts Center. The shows will be held on November 30th, December 1st and 2nd at 7 pm and a 2 pm matinee on Sunday, December 3rd.

Hayrides to Enjoy Madison’s Christmas Lights

The Madison Chamber is excited to sponsor 2 opportunities to enjoy a hayride and enjoy all the beautiful lights and decorations throughout Madison. The rides will be available on Saturday, December 16th from 4:30 – 6:30 and Sunday, December 17th from 5 -7. More information will be provided closer to the dates.
