Call to order

Meeting called to order on Thursday 6th November 2008, at 10:05 ET.

Call for Essential Patents

The chair asked about any essential patent items which participants wished to mention.

There were none.

7. Adjourn

Status of TGu draft

Comment (C) : There appear to be many duplicates, but not too many difficult problems.

Technical Editor (TE): The editorial comments have been done and please use D4.01 for creating submissions. This is now available in the IEEE 802.11u members area.

Question(Q): Did the TE catch the two submissions which were approved but missed in the July draft update D3.0.

TE: No, I've only done the editor comments since the September meeting, although I’ve also taken up some advice on the style from the TGy chair.

Chair: Can you add the point about the missing submissions to the TGu agenda for next week (doc 1227). I’ll let the chair temp define the rest of the agenda for next week in my absence. However, please can

you remember to add slots for at least presentations that I’m aware of.

Q: Can I also have a slot for WFA Public Safety summary.

Comment Resolution Spreadsheet Update (11-08-1225r3)

CID 4624: Change "Native GAS" to something else.

C: I suggest we could use 'local' and change GAS to GATS: "Generic Advertisment Transport Service"

C: I'd rather not discuss this now, can we leave this to next week?

Chair: Ok, well let's discuss this for 10 minutes. Then perhaps have a limited time debate next week.

C: I think we should remove the word advertisment.

C: I like GATS.

C: I think I'd leave it as it is.

Chair: how about 'local' v 'native'

C: There appear to be a couple of comments about this. CID 4624 is really about 'local'

C: But CID 4645 has a question about native and non-native.

C: I have concerns about changing it to local, as it implies that non-local is therefore external.

C: So let’s keep the names as they are.

CID 4394

C: Regarding MESH, I've put in a proposed resolution about handing this over to TGs.

Chair: Fine, I’d advise sending a message to the commentor and see if they can do that for us.

Clause 6.2.1.1.4, P10, L44

C: This CID is about the creation of a potential MIB counter for the dropped frames.

Chair: Sure, can you provide some MIB counter text please.

C: Yes.

Clause 9.2.7., 46, 18 (spreadsheet row 510)

C: I don't understand the text.

Chair: It looks as though the first paragraph should be re-written.

C: Ok, I can do that.

Spreadsheet row 512

C: I would reject this comment as the wireless network is the end point of a connection. Since the data passes many domains, it's not necessarily the AP which is causing problems. IEEE 802.11 cannot influence external network data rates. The ISP is providing the customer with a specific data service.

C: Sure, but I'll still struggling with the resolution text.

C: Ok, I'll send you an email offline about this.

Interuption by someone’s dog on the teleconference, trying to become a new IEEE 802.11u member.

Spreadsheet row 449

Time bit ordering

C: In Hawaii, we were working with TGv to sort this out. Because we ran out of time, we just went our own way.

C: Regarding Figure 7-95bl, TE is this now correct?

TE: Yes, it looks ok.

C: I think this may just be a cosmetic comment on the table layout.

C: Ok, I will generate a submission to do this.

TE: Don't we have the same issue with the date and time field?

C: Ok, I could have caused some confusion last time in Hawaii.

C: 11v doesn't have a resolution yet.

C: Oh, I'll check with my 11v colleague.

Chair: Can you invite him along to TGu next week.

C: I'll find the 11v submission and then update the group on this.

Spreadsheet rows 430, 431

C: This is a similar problem to the previous comment.

C: Do you still have questions about this.

C: No, as its the same problem as the last one.

CID 4076 (Interworking Information Element - IW-IE)

Q: Perhaps the venue type fields should be made optional.

C: But since the HESSID field is optional, it makes the parsing of the IW-IE harder.

C: Ok, we could make the Venue group and venue type optional together, as shown in Figure 7-95an. It will work.

Chair: This would be ok for me.

CID: 4080

Q: Can we accept this comment? I would like to see a list.

Chair: But that would appear complicated. To solve this, we would require yet another listing mechanism.

C: And please note, that some of the categories are fairly broad.

C: I agree that adding a list becomes complicated.

C: Ok, I'll generate a submission.

C: Another option is to use number 12, to create a multiple values field. Then you'll know to make multiple queries. This avoids beacon bloat.

CID 4081

Q: Can we change it to Emergency Services (ES) bit.

Chair: Yes, that's fine with me and alligns with other SDO terminology.

CID 4843

C: This appears to be a good comment about EAS.

Chair: The submission from Huawei, next week, will address this.

CID 4395

Q: If the network provides internet access it should be set to 1. It just indicates that the network is capable of internet connectvitiy. You may require some more informaiton tot authenticate.

Chair: I agree.

CID 4615

C: Ok, but we would have to provide MIB variables for this.

Chair: Yes, I think we'll have to provide them.

C: Since Venue Type and Venue Group are now optional, why do

we need them in a non-AP STA.

C: I can provide some text for this.

CID 4085

Requires further discussion next week.

AOB

C: Can the chair remind us about the spreadsheet logistics

Chair: Hopefully the TGu secretary will be available to merge evrything as usual. But otherwise, please put your intials in the Group ID column to indicate your suggested rememdies to the table. These initials will then be changed in the live meeting next week to numbers, prior to approval by the TG by motion.

Q: Do you think we'll get to re-circ LB next week.

C: we have a 50/50 chance.

Chair: If most comments are resolved by submissions by Wednesday lunchtime, then things should be ok. Thursday is normally left for tidy ups.

Adjourn

Chair adjourned the call at 12:01 ET.
