Position Title: Coordinator – LISD Sponsored Student Events

Area: Office of the Superintendent

Reports To: Coordinator – Community Relations

SUMMARY:

To maintain and strengthen the LISD Quiz Bowl, Forensics, Equations, Spelling Bee, Fine Arts Festival and Debate programs within Lenawee County schools.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Ø  Coordinates dates for Quiz Bowl tournaments, Forensics/Debate/Equations scrimmages and tournaments, Fine Arts Festival, and County-wide Spelling Bee

Ø  Coordinates workshops and trainings for new Quiz Bowl, Forensics, Spelling Bee, Equations, and Debate coaches, as needed

Ø  Provides support to coaches on teaching skills to students, as needed

Ø  Educates schools on the advantages of Quiz Bowl, Forensics, Fine Arts Festival, Spelling Bee, Equations, and Debate and encourages participation

Ø  Schedules facilities for events

Ø  Under the direction of Community Relations Coordinator, orders necessary supplies, materials, and awards

Ø  Coordinates external help for tournaments/Festival

Ø  Coordinates with the Lenawee County Fair final tournament event at the fair bandshell

Ø  Planning meeting with coaches and judges before the Forensics and Debate season

Ø  Purchase questions and gathers related material for Quiz Bowl, Forensics, Debate, and Spelling Bee

Ø  Coordinates and works with a planning committee of Teachers and Community volunteers to plan and carry out the details associated with the Fine Arts Festival.

Ø  Supervises an Intern to assist with implementation of Fine Arts Festival

Ø  Competencies, Skills and Abilities:

·  Ability to use computer for tasks such as for basic word processing, daily email, electronic calendaring, excel data processing, etc.

·  Ability to work with LISD Grants Writer to secure funding for Fine Arts Festival

·  Ability to balance figures

·  Ability to compile statistics

·  Ability to coordinate itineraries/meetings/events/schedules

·  Ability to research information

·  Ability to prioritize multiple tasks

·  Ability to deal effectively with a changing environment and be open to new ideas

·  Ability to communicate in person, via phone and computer

Ø  Physical Demands:

·  Occasional reaching/stooping/bending/kneeling/ crouching

·  Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day with frequent prolonged standing/walking/ talking

·  Must be able to read and speak the English language

·  Must have visual acuity

·  Must be able to see, hear, and move intermittently, or use prosthetics that will enable you to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

·  Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Preferred:

·  High school diploma

·  Event planning experience

·  Microsoft Word and Excel experience

·  Quiz Bowl, Debate, Equations, Forensics, Spelling Bee, event planning experience (preferred)

·  Strong organizational skills

·  Strong public speaking skills

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Part-time position during the School calendar year of July 2017 – June 2018

$ 6,650 ($175.00 per day) stipend will be paid for the school year; Exempt

·  5 days - Debate

·  5 days - Quiz Bowl

·  5 days - Forensics

·  3 days - Spelling Bee

·  5 days - Equations

·  15 days - Fine Arts Festival ( Includes 2 days face to face meetings with the Planning Committee; contacting resource people and obtaining the necessary paperwork from them; working with the Grant Writer to prepare grant proposals to fund the Festival; work with the staff at Siena Heights to secure spaces and meal arrangements; creating a registration process and organizing the registrations into TRACKs; follow – up calls to the District Coordinators; ordering T-Shirts/ sorting them, attaching name tags, etc.; ordering materials for resource people; billing/collecting district fees; Supervise student intern and coordinate actual day of the Festival which is a 13 hr. day)
