ASSESSMENT TASK NOTIFICATION
(This sheet must be handed in with your task.)
Student: / Task Number: 1
Subject: Science / Weighting:
Year / Class: 7 / Date Issued to Class:
Teacher: Prasad/ Kemp/ Iqbal/ Kaur/ Sharif / Date Due:
Outcomes to be assessed:
Students will be assessed on their ability to:
o  Understand that water on earth moves in a continuous cycle.
o  Be able to name and explain the stages of the water cycle.
o  Communicate effectively using a research poster and a bibliography.
Literacy aspects to be assessed:
Language Conventions
·  Spelling – ensure you include complex vocabulary words (refer to unit outlines and topic glossaries) and double check that all words are spelt correctly. Don’t rely on spell check; make sure you proofread your own work!
·  Punctuation – unless otherwise stated you should write in full sentences. Each sentence must begin with a capital letter and end with a full stop, exclamation mark or question mark. Sophisticated writing should also make use of more complex punctuation, like apostrophes, commas, hyphens, colons, quotation marks and semi-colons.
·  Grammar – make sure your sentences make sense. They should express a clear idea/point, remain in the same tense (don’t switch between present and past tense – e.g. I am running to I ran) and have correct subject-verb agreement (changing the verb/doing word to show if the subject is singular or plural - e.g. Tevita and Mustafa go to the shops and Tevita goes to the shops).
Task Instructions: Type of task: Research Poster
The poster must include:
·  A type of precipitation (rain, sleet, hail, or snow) should be shown to originate in the sky.( 1 mark)
·  Poster should show the following processes ,Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation ( 2marks )
·  Precipitation landing on the surface of the earth. At that point, the drawing should indicate that some of it may be absorbed into the earth as groundwater and the rest as runoff. ( 2marks )
·  Shows movement of water using arrows. ( 1 mark)
·  Water evaporating off the surface of the earth (from surface water, land, or vegetation. (1 mark)
·  Condensation occurring in the air or sky. This might be shown as clouds or by the word “condensation.” ( 1 mark)
·  Uses scientific terminology (freezes, melts, vapour, cools and precipitation) to describe the water cycle and change of states involved. (2 marks)
·  All words spelled correctly (2 marks)
·  Correct use of grammar and punctuation (2 marks

Outstanding / (5) Poster includes type of precipitation and the origin, thoroughly explains processes (evaporation, condensation and precipitation, and the precipitation landing on the Earth as ground water and runoff. / (5) Poster shows all movement of water using arrows, the evaporation of water from the different surfaces of the Earth, identifying that condensation occurs in the sky, and sophisticated use of terminology. / (2) All words, including a range of sophisticated vocabulary terms, are spelled correctly. / (2) Correct use of all punctuation, including at least two examples of complex punctuation. / (1) Bibliography is in Harvard format and contains substantial entries from a variety of sources
High / (4) Poster includes type of precipitation and the origin, briefly explains processes (evaporation, condensation and precipitation, and the precipitation landing on the Earth as ground water and runoff. / (4) Poster shows all movement of water using arrows, the evaporation of water from the different surfaces of the Earth, identifying that condensation occurs in the sky, and use of terminology. / (1) Most words, including several complex vocabulary terms, are spelled correctly. / (1) Some correct use of complex punctuation and consistently correct use of basic punctuation, and basic grammar.
Sound / (3) Poster includes type of precipitation and explains the origin, identifies processes (evaporation, condensation and precipitation, and the precipitation landing on the Earth. / (3) Poster shows some movement of water using arrows, the evaporation of water from the two different surfaces of the Earth, identifying that condensation occurs in the sky, and sophisticated use of terminology.
Limited / (2) Poster includes type of precipitation, identifies some processes (evaporation, condensation and precipitation, and the precipitation landing on the Earth. / (2) Poster shows limited movement of water using arrows, the evaporation of water from one surface of the Earth, identifying that condensation occurs in the sky, and some use of terminology.
Basic / (1) Poster includes type of precipitation and explains the origin, identifies one process (evaporation, condensation and precipitation. / (1) Poster shows limited movement of water using arrows, the evaporation of water from the Earth and identifying that condensation occurs in the sky.
