31 (18th) January, 2016
35th SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST. Tone 2
St. ATHANASIUS THE GREAT (373) and St. CYRIL (444), archbishops of Alexandria.
Col. 3, 12-16 Heb. 13, 7-16 Lk. 18, 18- 27 Mt. 5, 14-19
------
Tropar of the Resurrection, Tone 2
When You descended to death, Life Immortal, You slew Hades with the splendour of Your Divinity. And when from the depths You raised the dead, all the Powers of Heaven cried out: Giver of Life, Christ our God, glory to You.
Tropar of the Church. Tone 1
In giving birth you preserved your virginity. In falling asleep you did not forsake the world, Birth-Giver of God. You were translated to life, Mother of Life, and through your prayers you deliver our souls from death.
Tropar of the Hierarchs, Tone 3
Resplendent with works of Orthodoxy and reducing all heersires to ashes, you were victors and conquerors, enriching all with piety; and, having greatly adorned the Church, you have acquired Christ God, as is meet, Who grants us great mercy.
Kondak of the Resurrection, Tone 2
Hades became fearful, Almighty Saviour, seeing the miracle of Your Resurrection from the tomb. The dead arose and all creation, with Adam, beheld this and rejoiced with You and the world, my Saviour, praises You forever.
Glory… Kondak of the church, Tone 2
Neither the tomb nor death had power over the Birth-Giver of God; she is ever watchful in her prayers and in her intercession lies unfailing hope. For as the Mother of Life she has been translated to life by the One Who dwelt within her ever-virginal womb.
Now and ever… Kondak of the Hierarch, Tone 2
Planting Orthodox doctrine, you mow down the tares of heresy, causing the seed of faith to increase through the rain of the Spirit, O venerable one. Wherefore, we hymn you, O Athanasius.
Prokimen of the Resurrection, Tone 2
The Lord is my strength and my song. He has become my salvation.
Verse: The Lord has chastened me sorely, but He has not given me over to death.
Prokimen of the Hierarchs, Tone 8
The saints shall boast in glory, and they shall rejoice upon their beds.
Alleluia Verses, Tone 2
May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble. May the Name of the God of Jacob protect you.
Lord, save the king and hear us on the day we call out to You.
You priests shall be clothed with righteousness, and Your righteous shall rejoice.
For the Lord has elected Sion, He has chosen her to be a habitation for Himself.
