Our Tuesday evening youth group continues to meet each week at 7pm in St. Andrew’s Hall on the second floor of St. Catherine’s Convent. All high school students are welcome to join us. Doors open at 6pm. This meeting has been a great success with 20 to 25 students attending weekly. We are always looking for new high school members!

MIDDLE SCHOOL HARBOR CRUISE and DANCE

Join us Monday, June 29th for the Archdiocesan’s Annual Middle School Harbor Cruise and Dance. We will meet at St. Catherine’s at 6 PM, and be returning at 11 PM. The cost of the event is $20. Please contact Frank at the YFM Office to reserve a spot.

MATTHEW 25

Students are invited to join us for this year’s Matthew 25 Program, which will take place immediately following Vacation Bible School, July 20 through 24. Last summer the YFM group assisted many parishioners around Norwood. We will again be planning to do similar work in the parish community. Students wishing to join us should sign up by contacting the YFM Office. Seniors who have minor repair projects and painting should contact Frank Connell at 617-792-3433 or Margaret Hayes at 781-762-2903 to reserve a crew for the summer.

GOSPEL ROAD

For this summer, we are bringing back, and revitalizing a very unique week long service program known as Gospel Road. The project will run from Sunday evening, July 26 until Friday afternoon, July 31. This program had great popularity in the Archdiocese years ago and was very popular at St. Timothy’s and St. Catherine’s as well. I am looking for both students and parents who would be interested in assisting with any one of the many aspects of this program. Please contact the YFM Office at 617-792-3433. With the economy still very unstable, and families having to tighten budgets, this is the YFM’s alternative to an out-of-state service trip. The deadline to register for this service week is Monday, July 13.

Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

Dear friends—

This weekend marks the collection for the health and retirement needs of the priests of the Archdiocese of Boston. In past bulletins I mentioned the reasons why this special collection is needed and how we hope this collection and other fund raising activities will help to alleviate the great stress that these funds are now under. Any help that you can give is greatly appreciated.

Envelopes for this collection are in the pews and can be placed with your regular Sunday offering in the collection baskets. If you are not prepared to make a donation today, we would ask you to take an envelope and either drop it in next Sunday’s collection or mail it to the office, or drop it off at the office when you can. Again, many thanks for your assistance.

On Saturday, June 27, we will be hosting our Special Needs day here at the parish. Each year we invite individuals from our parish and the surrounding communities to enjoy a day on our beautiful parish grounds. The flyer in this week’s bulletin explains a bit more about the day and ways that you can volunteer if you wish.

As with so many things in life, often when we volunteer to help with activities such as this, we get back far more than we give. Let’s hope for good weather and a nice turnout of guests and volunteers for this special day.

Many of you mentioned seeing the article about Fr. Field in last Sunday’s newspaper. Fr. Field lived at our rectory while he was head of the Worship Office for the Archdiocese prior to his appointment as pastor of Incarnation parish in Melrose. As you know, he is waging a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer at the present time.

I thought the article was a great testimony to his faith at a most difficult moment in his life. It is easy to talk about faith and it can be easy to have faith when life treats you well. It is a very different story when life really hits you with a tremendous crisis and challenge. Certainly, we want to keep Fr. Field in our prayers at this time and pray too for all those struggling with sickness or suffering in any form.

Fr. Culloty
