JHS FALL PLAY
Zany Comedy to be presented by JHS
Jefferson High School Theatre Department will present Ken Ludwig’s fast-paced, hilarious farce Moon Over Buffaloon November 8 and 9 at 7:30 and November 10 at 2:00 in Discovery Auditorium.
Moon Over Buffalo is the story of traveling “over-the-hill” actors George and Charlotte Hay and the members of their theatre company in 1953 Buffalo, New York. George and Charlotte have always had dreams of becoming film stars, so when George gets a call from film director Frank Capra, he thinks his big break is ahead. However, first he has to convince his unhappy wife, Charlotte, and noncommittal daughter, Rosalind, and the rest of their ragtag company to impress Capra. By the middle of Act II, a mistaken identity leads to George being shot at, his daughter’s fiancé has been tied up and locked in a closet, and the company struggles to “hold it together” as their inability to figure out whether they’re performing Cyrano de Bergerac or Private Lives results in a disastrous mash-up of the two plays.
The original Broadway production of Moon Over Buffalo marked a hilarious return to the stage for comedienne Carol Burnett in the role of Charlotte opposite Philip Bosco’s George. Of said production, the New York Post theatre critic wrote that Moon Over Buffalo was “one of the most hilarious things ever to be put onstage.” The original production ran for 309 performances before closing, and has since entertained many regional, community, and educational theatre audiences. As senior cast member Aaron Halvorson says, Moon Over Buffalo is a “witty and wonderful story that has the power to make people’s day.”
Jefferson High School’s production stars junior Tristen Chamberlin
and senior Tori Long as George and Charlotte Hay with junior
Anna Peterson as their daughter; Rosalind. Aaron Halvorson plays the
company manager, Paul, and senior Madison Nowling-Kjellberg
plays Charlotte’s mother, Ethel. Rounding out the cast is senior
Katy Niemeyer as quitting company member Eileen, junior Spencer Vogel
as the Hays’ suave lawyer Richard, and junior Kyle Pietrowski as Rosalind’s
fumblingfiance, Howard. The production is stage managed by senior
Tyler Carlson and junior Gabe Clauson-Klepper and directed by Jessica Chipman.
Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for students. No advance tickets will be sold.
General admission is available at the door.
