January 4, 2017

Welcome Cyberstudent:

You are currently registered for Word Level I (OAT157) online. Though the class does not start until Monday, January 9, 2017, you need to become aware of a few things. All web sites discussed below work best in Internet Explorer.

All of the web pages important to you as a Delaware Tech college student are located at the portal called, MyDTCC. Use either website address (hold down the CTRL key to click on link directly from this document) http://my.dtcc.edu or http://www.dtcc.edu (at this link you would then need to click on MyDTCC (located on the right side of the webpage). You should bookmark the MyDTCC website address. You will need to use your DTCC username and password to login. The username and password needed to set up this account is provided on your registration form. For example, username may be jsmith and your password may be 010169 (date of birth). If you have misplaced your registration form you can call 302-857-1750 (a Dover number). This site will provide college wide, as well as, Owens specific information. Once you enter into MyDTCC you can access the sites discussed below without having to log into them individually.

·  My Courses (BlackBoard): All of your courses, including this online course, are located at the My Courses tab (Blackboard). Possibly, not all of your instructors will be using BlackBoard as part of the course. There is also a student help web site provided to acquaint you with Blackboard located at http://my.dtcc.edu.

·  Web mail E-mail System: All of the course information I send through e-mail will go to your @dtcc address. You need to check your school e-mail regularly. It’s important to remember you can send e-mail through BlackBoard, but you can only check e-mail through Web mail.

·  BannerWeb Student Record System: Current students can register for classes, get unofficial transcripts and check on financial aid status through Banner Web.

The next item you will want to double check is that you have purchased the correct textbook. This book is used at the Owens campus; therefore, it will have to be ordered from the Owens campus. The other college bookstores will probably not have this book.

·  Microsoft Office Word 2013: Signature Series, Paradigm Publishing. The ISBN is 978-07638-56045.

·  There is an e-book option if you prefer and it can be purchased with an Access code for SNAP. Here’s the textbook Web Site. http://paradigm.emcp.com/signature-series-microsoft-word-2013.html

·

The textbook in the bookstore is bundled with SNAP 2013 which is a Web-based training and assessment tool that will used in the course and a 180 day trial version for Office 2013. Both the textbook and SNAP are required items for the course. The SNAP will not work on Macs, PC’s only.

The phone number for the Owens bookstore is (302) 259-6116. You may also click on the link I have provided to order the book online from the Owens bookstore. You may have another Del Tech campus order the textbook for you as well. The software needed is Office 2013 Professional, which contains the word processing application Word and Access, which will be used for mail merge. This course teaches word processing features using Word 2013.

If you have technical difficulties, it is up to you to contact Tech Support to work them out. The Owens campus Open Lab and Library has computers available with the correct software if you need to use school computers. I recommend doing the live chat with tech support or call them directly. Available Monday through Sunday 8AM – 10PM (CST). Call 1-800-328-1452 (press 2) for Technical Support.

I look forward to working with you. I hope everyone is up for the challenge of completing the course. Once I release the additional course information on Monday, September 8, 2014, and you access the course web site, I hope it will be very easy for you to navigate. Follow all buttons in order and read everything carefully. Print out all documents which you feel are necessary. The calendar, for example, is very important and will have to be strictly followed. Late assignments are not an option. Hope you find this information helpful. If you have any questions e-mail me at .

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kimberly A. Burton, Instructor
