How to set up the OverDrive Media Console app on your Android phone or tablet
You only need to do this once.You will need to be connected to the Internet.
- Confirm requirements.You must have Android v2.2 or higher installed. If you are not sure, go into the Settings menu for your device, and then select “About phone/About tablet” (or sometimes “Software Information”).

- Install the Software – Enter the Android Market or the Google Play Store on your device (look for one of the icons on the left).
- Authorize – authorize your device with a free Adobe ID. The Adobe ID lets you use the same digital accounton multiple devices.
/ Load the OverDrive Media Console app.
Tap the “settings” button in the top menu bar (looks like a series of sliders).
Tap on “Get a free Adobe ID.” Fill out the required information.
(If you want to sign up for an Adobe ID on another computer rather than your device, you can do so – just go to )
When you have submitted your information, return to the OverDrive app. Enter the email address and password you just chose for your Adobe ID and tap “authorize.”
Your device is now authorized and you are ready to add books to your Bookshelf!
How to add items to your Library:
Anytime you are ready to download new books and e-audiobooks, you can do so directly on your device. You will need to be connected to the Internet.

- Search or Browse for a title that interests you & Add To Cart
- Proceed to Checkout. Login with your library card information if requested to do so
- Download. As long as your OMC is authorized, your title will appear in your Library automatically.

You will need to be connected to the Internet.
- Open the OverDrive Media Console app on your device. (If you have not installed the app yet, see previous page). If OMC does not show up on your device’s Home screen, you can find it in All Apps (often with an icon similar to this: )
- Look for the Get Books icon () in the top bar of the app. Tap it.
The first time you use the app, you will need to search for “Strathcona County” and select “Strathcona County Library” from the list.
Tap the star icon next to the library name to add this library permanently. You will only need to do this once and then the library will appear in your list each time you hit “Get Books”.)
- Tap “Strathcona County Library” again to visit the library’s digital collection page. Search or browse for a title that interests you and add it to your Cart.

- Once you find an item you want and put it in your cart, proceed to Checkout.Login with your library card information.
- Download. Once the item is checked out, tap the “Download” button to add it to your Bookshelf.
As long as your OverDrive Media Console is authorized (see step 3 on the previous page), your title will appear in your library. Some items may take several minutes to download, especially e-audiobooks.
Tap the book cover or title to read.
Expiring Titles
When library e-books expire, you will no longer be able to open them, and you will be prompted to delete them. You will never be charged any fines for “overdue” e-books. If you are not finished with the books, you can download it again if it is available; otherwise, place a Request and you will be notified by email when the title is available.
How to return items early
1.On the Library screen, tap the small plus sign that appears to the right of the item you want to delete. You will see options for that item including “Return/Delete” and “Details.”
2.Tap “Return/Delete” to return the item. Select either “Delete” or “Return and delete.”
(If you want to keep the book checked out, for example because you want to continue reading it on another device, you can delete it without returning it. Otherwise, you can return the item so the next user can borrow it.)
