UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest

Directions:Given from where HWY 380 intersects with HWY 287 S coming from 380 in either direction (Gainesville/Denton Area, Bridgeport Area).

Take HWY 287 South to Fort Worth
You will pass one exit to HWY 730 on your right. Once you have passed that exit, move into your left hand lane. You will see the high school on the hill. The next opportunity to turn left should be Business 287(caution light).
Turn left on to business 287. You will pass a couple of large truck yards on your left hand side.
Once you enter the school zone, start slowing down and look for Carson elementary.
There is an unmarked road before CarsonElementary school on the left.
Turn Left on this road and follow it all the way past CarsonElementary Schoolto the teacher parking lot.We will have signs posted to guide you in. Please DO NOT attempt to come in through the front parking lot off of HWY 730. There is a gate that separates the student parking lot and the teacher parking lot. It will be closed and you will be unable to get where you need to go.

Bus Parking:Unload all students and equipment in front of the bus loop. Please leave instrument cases on the bus or instrument truck. Buses and trucks must park in the back of the teacher parking lot. After your performance, students will be able to safely walk back to the buses (very short walk). Monitors will have directions.

Restrooms:Restrooms are available for changing etc. in the foyer of the auditorium.

Percussion:The following percussion will be available: Concert bass drum, timpani, marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, bells, chimes and gong. If you need additional equipment, call and we will try to help. I will also have percussion in the sight-reading room. If you plan to use your own major percussion equipment please notate that on your setup chart. This will help us facilitate a quicker stage change for you.

Contest Information

A tuner and metronome will be available during warm-up.

All bands will warm-up and perform on the stage.

Sight-reading will be in the band hall.

Note: Please remember to familiarize yourself with these new sight-reading procedures as outlined by UIL with regards to who may be present during this portion of the contest.

·DIRECTOR(S) OF THEORGANIZATION BEING EVALUATED

·ADMINISTRATORS OF THE SCHOOL BEING EVALUATED

·MONITORS WORKING THE CONTEST

·JUDGES

·PARENTS OF THE STUDENTS IN THEORGANIZATION BEING EVALUATED

·WITH DIRECTOR’S PERMISSION

OTHERS MUST HAVE PERMISSION OF THE CONTEST CHAIR

OR EXECUTIVE SECRETARY

VIDEO AND/OR AUDIO RECORDING EQUIPMENT IS NOT

PERMITTED IN SIGHT-READING ROOM

The Choir Hall will serve as the contest office/director reception area. Again, we will have signs posted to all facility points of interest.

There are several restaurants in Decatur including:

Ci Ci’s Pizza, Chili’s, Yesterday’s (50’s style restaurant), Casa Tores, plus any type of fast food you would want to consider. If you need directions to any of these restaurants, please let me know and I will be happy to help you.
