Born in Brno in 1988, Jan has studied signing since early childhood under the guidance of his mother, singing teacher and opera singer Zdeňka Rybecká. Between 2007 and 2012, Jan studied at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno in Zdeněk Šmukař’s class. As of January 2010 he has been a member of the Janáček Opera at the National Theatre in Brno where he has appeared among others as Leporello (Don Giovanni), the King (Aida), Gremin (Eugene Onegin), Kecal (The Bartered Bride). In 2011 Jan made his debut at the Prague National Theatre as Osmin (The Abduction from the Seraglio) and since then has appeared in a number of other roles, such as Leporello (Don Giovanni), Figaro and Bartolo (Figaro’s Wedding) or Sarastro (The Magic Flute). He is a standing guest of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava where has has appeared as Colline (Armida), Claudius (Hamlet), or Kecal (The Bartered Bride). He performed the latter role during the opening night of the New Theatre in Pilsen in the 2014/15 season. Jan has performed abroad, among others, at the Opéra de de Paris,the opera houses at Montpellier and Nantes/Angers Opera, where he appeared as Osmin (The Abduction from the Seraglio), at the Opéra de Toulon (Alidoro in Rossini’s Le Cenerentola) or at the Opéra National de Lorraine at Nancy.

His prolific concert activies have involved work with BBC Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lyon, Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, Radio Symphony Orchestra Hannover, Czech Philharmonic, Prague Philharmonia, and has appeared at a number of prestigious festivals, among others BBC Proms, Salzburger Festspiele or Smetana’s Litomyšl. Jan’s concert repertoire includes such works as the basso parts in Bach (The Christmas Oratorio, St John Passion), Haydn (Creation), Mozart, Dvořák or Verdi (Requiem). In the current season Jan will appear as Alvise Badoero (La Gioconda) at the Brno National Theatre, Sparafucile (Rigoletto) at the Prague National Theatre or Truffaldino (Ariadna on Naxos) at theOpéra National de Lorraine atNancy.
