Job Description: This positions will work with a designated caseworker with a primary focus on assisting with casework paperwork and direct client contact.
Duties can include, but are not limited to:
•Assist client with funding applications
•Follow up with clients to ensure all paperwork is in order
•In shelter locations, lead activities or informational sessions with shelter clients
•Assist shelter caseworker with data entry and statistics
•Meet with and interview clients for basic services
•Screen client needs over the phone and in person
•Make resource referrals for clients when appropriate
This particular internship will work with our Lafayette shelter caseworker.
All interns are required to attend a volunteer orientation before beginning their position. Interns will be trained and supervised by a Shelter Caseworker and evaluated at the end of their term and on an as needed basis.
Qualifications:
•Attention to detail and accuracy is essential.
•Must be a fast learner with copier and fax use
•Ability to navigate web based software and input data
•Understanding and sensitivity with vulnerable populations, good listening, a nonjudgmental attitude and the capacity to display respect, patience, concern and compassion are necessary.
•Willingness to use a "strengths based" approach is necessary.
•Must enjoy working with a variety of people and demonstrate a commitment to helping others.
•Can flourish in a fast-paced, crisis oriented environment.
•Spanish language skills are an asset.
