QUARTERLY REPORT

Another trimester at Governors State University has flown by us! Our chapter, along with the GSU student chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, has been busy planning our Annual Counseling Gala scheduled for April 17th, 2010. The organizations have been hosting this event since the 1980’s, and we are excited to be adding another year to the list. In addition, we are also proud to invite the Psychology department to join in on the festivities; we felt that if we share administration, professors, classes, and interests, we should also be sharing such a good time! The annual gala is for all counseling and psychology students, alumni, faculty, staff, internship supervisors, and other supporters/professionals in the field. At the Gala, there will be a formal dinner, dancing, cash bar, as well as anintroduction of the new ICA and Chi Sigma Iota officers, and skitsand entertainment by volunteers of the department. The Gala begins at 6pm, and will be hosted at the University Golf Club across the street from GSU. Our team is very excited about the event!

Please consider this report a formal invitation for our ICA friends as well!

Tickets are $25 dollars a person, and available by mailing a check payable to Governors State University to:

Besides planning the gala, we have been focused on creating our chapter’s strategic plan (SP). I found this to be a great tool to see what progress we have made, where we fell short, and where we want to improve. I hope that the SP helps future officers of our chapter stay on track with the goals and objectives of the Illinois Counseling Association. Also, creating a mission statement will help us bring awareness of our chapter and what our direction and intention is.

While this may be my last quarterly report as GSU’s chapter President, as well as Chapter Representative for the Executive Committee, I hope to remain involved in ICA and its divisions. I have grown considerably in my professionalism and leadership abilities, and I thank ICA for that experience. Let’s hope that the upcomingspring and summersun will bring change and growth for us all!

Sincerely,

Jessica Specht
