PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
- The general objective is to promote sustainable development skills to the people with disabilities for poverty alleviation, and increased household incomes
- The specific objective is to bring about economical skills through demonstrating to local PWD the relevant projects so as to create awareness, expertise and skills in various aspects.
GOAL
To increase community social development through fostering participation of the disadvantaged vulnerable groups to attain sustainable basic livelihoods.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Given the social and economic trends of our country Uganda, it is clear that evils like corruption, ignorance, illiteracy and discrimination in order to offer total freedom to conscience to many social offenders resulting in the suffering of vulnerable groups not only economically and socially but also to lead to unskillful generations and poverty to the marginalized families. It is out of this that Twekembe Blind group came out to initiate projects that will empower the People with Disabilities (PWDS) and their families. One of the projects proposed was that of tailoring and sewing. The organization doesn’t have a good number of resources which is why its development has been hindered. With that in mind, Twekembe Blind group has come up with a development plan for its members to direct the mobilization and the allocation of resources for the organization to meet its objectives of economic and social empowerment of the community as well as fighting the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
In this plan, Twekembe Blind Group has considered priority programmes such as the community capacity building, income generating activities such as the sewing/tailoring project , community health and sanitation projects concerning income generating activities, life skills, environment conservation, soil management, food processing, less privileged community participation in economic development and implementation of the nation, to mention but a few.
As expressed above the funding from the organization is not enough, so hope fully Twekembe Blind group will exploit other sources of funding such as international NGOs, Government, and well-wishers to fill the gaps in the number of projects.
All in all the organization intends to put in over 15% of the budgets in its projects implementation. Since Twekembe Blind group has started attracting friends, we hop that the dream will become a reality.
Twekembe Blind group has come out with a tailoring project to enhance the people with disabilities economic development.
Project Analysis
According to the research and the analysis, findings indicate that there are a significant number of schools being established in Kira Town council, this has increased the demand for tailoring products such as school uniforms, school sweaters etc however due to the increased demand of such products, and there is a gap for opportunities for new suppliers.
Therefore, there is an opportunity for our organization to engage in this project that will be easy to manage and is hoped to give good returns due to the demand consequently improving the standard of living among the PWDs and their families hence eradicating poverty.
