Development Officer, Partnerships

Indspire is an Indigenous-led registered charity that invests in the education of Indigenous people for the long term benefit of these individuals, their families and communities, and Canada. With the support of its funding partners, Indspire disburses financial awards, delivers programs, and shares resources with the goal of closing the gap in Indigenous education. Through the Indspire Institute, it provides resources to educators, communities, and other stakeholders who are committed to improving kindergarten to grade 12 success for Indigenous youth. Since its inception in 1985, Indspire has disbursed almost $79million through close to 25,000 scholarships and bursaries to Indigenous students, making it the largest funder of Indigenous education outside the federal government. Each year, the organization presents the Indspire Awards, a gala celebration of the successes achieved by Indigenous people that is broadcast nationally.

As part of the Development team, the Development Officer, Partnerships will report to the Director, Major Gifts and play a key role in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of Indspire’s corporate sponsors and donors. The successful candidate will develop and implement an annual fundraising plan and maintain an ongoing prospect portfolio of approximately 100-125 corporate donors at all stages of fundraising. They will also manage relationships with corporate sponsors/ donors and foundations by ensuring that benefits identified in gift/sponsorship agreements are tracked, fulfilled and reported on in-order to achieve organization-wide and department goals.

Key Duties

·  Develop and implement an annual plan to secure corporate and foundation sponsors and donors.

·  Work closely with the Director, Major Gifts to support corporate and foundation fundraising strategies and the team to ensure maximum revenue is achieved from corporate and foundation prospects and donors.

·  Maintain an ongoing portfolio of approximately 100-125 > $25,000 sponsors/donors at all stages of fundraising.

·  Perform research to generate lists of new prospects and generate profiles, briefing notes, proposals/case for support and other solicitation materials as required.

·  Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward corporate sponsors and donors annually to achieve identified and agreed upon fundraising targets.

·  Maintain accurate, professional and current records, actions and reports.

·  Work closely with other Indspire departments as the key contact for all sponsorship fulfillment for Indspire sponsors and donors and ensure that all benefits and recognition are tracked, delivered and reported on as identified in gift/sponsor agreements.

·  Prepare correspondence to corporate sponsors and donors and respond to corporate sponsor or donor inquiries as required.

Qualifications

·  Completion of a college diploma or university degree plus a minimum of two years’ experience and success in corporate fundraising and stewardship in a non-profit fundraising department or similar environment.

·  A broad knowledge of corporate sponsorship and corporate social responsibility trends.

·  Demonstrated excellence in customer service and administrative skills.

·  Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

·  Strong interpersonal and public relations skills to communicate effectively with corporate sponsors and donors to meet their needs.

·  Collaborative team player who takes initiative.

·  Ability to work with sensitive information with complete confidentiality.

·  Able to work and interact with a diversity of corporate donors, sponsors and prospects.

·  Able to work quickly, efficiently and accurately with an attention to detail.

·  Proficiency in MS office suite, with advanced excel spreadsheet skills and knowledge of fundraising databases.

·  Prospect research skills and the ability to synthesize large quantities of information into simple briefing notes and reports for senior managers.

·  Ability to work in French is an asset.

·  Knowledge of the Indigenous community is an asset.

·  Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends and possess a willingness to travel within Canada.
