Think Piece #1

The purpose of this paper is for you to reflect on your individual “team player” attributes. In the context of this paper, think of “team player” as someone who has been on teams and willjoin new teams in the future. Think of each “team player attributes” as having a foundation of knowledge, requiring the practice of a skill, and/or attitude one demonstrates through his or her actions and behaviors.

Each of us has a unique combination of knowledge, skills, and attitudes (“KSAs”) that welearn or develop on current teams or that we bring with us to current teams based upon our past team experiences. Attributes may be categorized as “qualities” (as John Maxwell does in his book) or competencies in team player research. Theoretically, one becomes more and more competent with each attribute the longer he or she is on teams. These attributes are “transported” with him or her to the next team.

Knowledge:Generally, things that you know

Skills:Generally, things you can do

Attitudes: Thoughts you have, demonstrated by your actions and behaviors

Take the short quiz and print your results. They are for your reference only. I do not need a copy!

Reflect on your results and your team player attributes. What positive attributes do you bring to a team? What team-player attributes might you or should you improve upon, develop, or enhance?

Select two questions (statements) from the quiz. The first should demonstrate the question or statement that you relate to most, are most proud of, or means the most to you as a team player. The second should reflect the area on which you believe you need to concentrate to make yourself a better team-player. The discussion of these two areas is “the body” of your paper.

Construct a brief paper presenting your positive and negative team-player attributes. As I read your paper, I should be able to note these and 1) understand how you plan to utilize your strengths this quarter and 2) know at least one area you plan to improve and the steps you will take to improve the attribute. Please read the Think Piece Grading Guide, posted on the web, prior to writing your paper.

This is a paper, not simply answers to questions!
