Sarah has 18 years clinical experience working within the NHS, private sector and Ministry of Defence (MOD) specialising in aquatic therapy and musculoskeletal physiotherapy. She qualified as a physiotherapist with a BSc (Hons) from Brunel University London in 1997 and continued to work in London. Sarah has been actively involved with all aspects of running a hydrotherapy pool - clinical treatment through to the workings of the plant room, infection control and health and safety requirements.
In 2001 Sarah completed the Bath Hydrotherapy Course. She went on to further her post graduate training in aquatic therapy by completing the Valens Course in Switzerland in 2006. In 2008 Sarah gained her Masters in Manual Therapy (MMT) in Perth, Australia. Sarah has been employed by the Ministry of Defence at DMRC Headley Court since 2009 specialising in the treatment of complex trauma patients which includes patients with multiple fractures and post orthopaedic surgery, amputees, incomplete and complete spinal cord injuries and chronic low back pain patients.
Sarah has been training physiotherapists and assistants in aquatic therapy since 2001 initially under her maiden name Dowding. From 2006 she started tutoring for the Aquatic Therapy Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (ATACP), former HACP, the Foundation Aquatic Therapy course (former Level One Hydrotherapy course) as well as tutoring specialised musculoskeletal intermediate courses. She has tutored courses in the UK and in South Africa. Her exposure to numerous hydrotherapy pools has provided her with a wealth of information she uses to advise on pool design and management.

INTERMEDIATE MUSCULOSKELETAL AQUATIC THERAPY COURSE
AIM
“To equip a physiotherapist with the knowledge and practical skills to effectively treat musculoskeletal patients in a hydrotherapy pool”
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On completion of the course the participant should be able to:
1. Understand and discuss the relevant physical properties of water for musculoskeletal patient treatment
2. Understand the physiology of immersion for appropriate patient screening and risk assessment
3. Understand the benefits of mobilisations in warm water
4. Demonstrate the ability to mobilise joint, muscle and neural tissue using the physical properties of water and therapeutic handling skills, including Maitland accessory glides and Mulligan MWMs
5. Understand the use of water for strengthening and theory of the Bad Ragaz Ring Method
6. Demonstrate treatment skills for stabilisation and strength training
7. Demonstrate the ability to use Bad Ragaz Patterns effectively
8. Relate evidence based research for support of treatment of musculoskeletal patients in a hydrotherapy pool
9. Understand appropriate patient screening, assessment and documentation for the treatment of patients in a hydrotherapy pool

Cancellation Policy
- Upon receipt of your application form and course fee you will be sent an email confirming your place on the course and receipt of the course fee. If you are being funded to attend a course please let us know who to invoice and also, if application, purchase order no.
- A full refund, less a £60 administration fee, will be made if written cancellation is received in the physiotherapy department four weeks prior to the course date. No refunds will be made after this time, for whatever reason. Substitute delegates are accepted at any time.
- University college hospital reserves the right to cancel the course if there are insufficient delegates. If, in the unlikely event a tutor cannot attend the course, we will endeavour to find a new date for the course to be held.
