Position Title:Veterans Court Mentor Coordinator

Classification/Level: Contractor / $25 per hour

Under the direction of the Problem Solving Courts Coordinators and Judges, the Mentor Coordinator acts as liaison between the Allen Circuit Veterans Court Program / The Allen Superior Drug Court Veterans Track and a team of volunteer veteran mentors; on a strictly contractual basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for the implementation, growth and development of a Veterans Court Mentor Program in Allen County, IN.
  • Recruits and trains volunteer veteran mentors to work with veteran court participants who are participating in either the Allen Circuit Veterans Court or the Allen Superior Drug Court Veterans Track.
  • Develops and maintains an open line of communication with social service agencies and other community members who can provide services for veterans under the courts supervision.
  • Develop and write all mentor policies and procedures for the Allen County Veterans Courts, including the implementation of an evaluation process for the volunteer mentors.
  • Manages detailed records for the volunteer mentors and mentees, meets regularly with all volunteer mentors providing guidance and oversight.
  • Provide regular reports and data analysis as requested to the Veteran Courts.
  • Collaborates with community resource agencies to identify groups to provide support, counseling and family assistance with transportation, food and clothing.
  • Attends the joint monthly Veterans Court Team Staffing and attends both the Allen Circuit Veterans Court and Allen Superior Drug Court Veterans Track as scheduled.
  • Attends training and development sessions as required
  • Performs all other tasks related to the veteran court mentor program as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Public Affairs, Criminal Justice or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Honorable discharge from military service or a current member in good standing.
  • Working knowledge of Fort Wayne and Allen County veteran community resources, individuals and agencies
  • Working knowledge of the criminal justice system preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience in policy development
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and other work related computer software programs

DIFFICULTY OF WORK:

The Veterans Court Mentor Coordinator performs as a contractor performing tasks that are broad in scope when networking with community services to assist participants within the Allen Circuit Veterans Court or the Allen Superior Drug Court Veterans Track to ensure the participants are matched with a volunteer mentor appropriately.

RESPONSIBILITY:

The Veterans Court Mentor Coordinator provides the operations related to the implementation, growth and development of volunteer mentors, including maintaining a high standard of excellence in mentoring and support services. Purpose and desired results are indicated and work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and conclusions.

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

The Veterans Court Mentor Coordinator maintains frequent contact with County employees, Judicial officers, community service providers, Veterans Court participants, and their families and the general public regarding available community resources.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Veterans Court Mentor Coordinator works in and out of an office setting with frequent contact with potentially dangerous, violent, and abusive program participants convicted of various misdemeanor and felony offenses. There is some standing and walking with frequent sitting. Some lifting of up to 40 pounds, bending, reaching overhead, and kneeling is required. Frequent mental/visual effort, attention to detail, detailed inspection, and typing are to be expected.
