Finance Minister Heng Swee Kiat said in his Budget 2016 Speech that the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) will enhance employment support through the “Adapt and Grow” initiative amidst softening economic conditions and ongoing restructuring. This initiative is meant to help Singaporeans adapt to changing demands and growing their skills. To encourage firms to hire workers affected by retrenchment and restructuring, the wage support schemes will be expanded.
The Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF) will be organising a briefing on government programmes and support schemes. At this platform, SNEFshare on the variousWSG programmes under the Adapt and Grow Initiativeon recruitment, training and retention of PMETs.
They are as follows:
  1. P-Max Place-and-Train Programme
-Aims to facilitate the entry of PMETs into suitable SME jobs,
-Receive $5,000 upon successful completion of the programme.
  1. Career Support Programme (CSP)
-Encourages employers to tap on wealth of experience that mature PMETs can bring to the workplace,
-PMETs unemployed for six months or more, in mid-level jobs that pay $3,600 will be given wage support of up to $42,000.
  1. Professional Conversion Programme (PCP) *NEW*
-Help jobseekers reskill and acquire necessary knowledge and competencies to take on new jobs,
-Eligible companies will receive training grants and salary support of up to $36,000.
Speaker Profile
Shaun Hou has been with the organisation for 12 years with his most recent posting to the Corporate Learning Centre as programme lead for WSG Place-and-Train Programmes. During his stint in SNEF, he was also seconded to the Tripartite Alliance for Fair Employment Practices to assist employers put in place fair and progressive HR Practices.
