What is This?

Everyone’s bathroom has an opportunity to become a cemetery of old, half-used products. You may have 6 different shampoos, conditioners and body-washes in your shower area. You probably have multiple bottles of lotion. You name it, you have some stuff you know you’ll never use again, but haven’t parted with.
On top of all of that you probably also have so many choices of make-up, eye shadow, lip stick and liners that go untouched. You use three or four of the same ones every day and the others just sit there getting dusty.
Well, the time has come. Start with your shower area. If there are products that are multiples of the same exact product, combine bottles and trash or recycle the empties. If it’s a conditioner or shampoo that just doesn’t work the way you expected it to and you’re never going to use it or will only use it “in an emergency,” it’s time to let it go.
As far as your make-up is concerned, here is how to weed it out. Smell your product. That’s right, smell it. If it doesn’t smell the way it did when purchased or just doesn’t smell “right,” trash it. Odor is a good way to determine if a product is too old to use. Also, if it’s a lipstick, eye shadow or concealer that just doesn’t go with your natural coloring, trash it. Let’s face it, if it doesn’t make you look good, why are you keeping it?
Last, but certainly not least, medications. Be sure to check expiration dates and discard them accordingly. Do not flush medicine down the drain or toilet. Guidelines indicate that you should wrap them in plastic bags and put them in the trash. Some medications are also collected by your pharmacy for safe disposal. You can check with your local pharmacist.
Once you have gone through all of your toiletries and make-up, it will be a lot easier to keep them orderly and tidy. Don’t spend your money on new matching baskets unless that’s really what you want to do. It is not necessary and in this economy probably not the best choice unless you have nothing on hand that you can use.
To sort and store your products, you can use items you probably have around the house – baskets, plastic milk crates, empty small boxes like those from checkbook orders, even utensil trays. These items will help to store your products in a way that will make them easier to find and will make it easier to determine when you really need to buy more…saving you time and money!
