What’s Been Happening This Week?

Lomeshaye Life

Issue 10

Friday 4th October 2013

Lomeshaye Junior School is such a busy place, let’s take a look at what has been happening this week.

News Club—Mrs Walmsley has started “News Club” this week with children from Years 5 and 6 they have two features to report on this week in our new section of the newsletter titled “Press Gang”.

Harvest Parcels– Mrs Malik and the school councilors have had a very important meeting this week to discuss the creation of food parcels to be given to local elderly people at the end of this half term. Each class will have a list of items that they need donating in order to create these parcels. Please ask you child what they need to donate to school for this and send in your tinned and packaged foods by 23rd October.

Author of the Month– Each month at Lomeshaye we introduce the pupils to a new children’s author to help encourage them to read more widely and learn more about different writers. This month our author is Children’s Laureate Malorie Blackman who has written a number of outstanding books for children. Being a black writer she also includes many characters from different ethnic backgrounds in her books.

Decorative Displays– this week all classes have been working extremely hard on fantastic displays that can be found in the school hall. The teachers and pupils have been preparing all week to show the trees that the classes are named after to the whole school and every visitor that we have too. The displays showcase work from the “Ourselves” theme that started off the year. Make sure that you take a look next time you visit!

Dancing Divas– after school on Monday saw the start of a fantastic new Dance Club that is being run by Miss Livesey. Amazingly a variety of children attended from different year groups. The dance club has been named by the pupils “Unisex Professionals” and they make be demonstrating some of their skills and talents in future presentations to parents.
