Role Profile – Learner Achievement Coach

Salary: £17,775 - £19,773 per annum, Scale 4. Pro rata where applicable

Primary Purpose:To target and improve success rates among “at risk” learners

Overview of responsibilities

1Work in a non-teaching capacity primarily working with a case load of students identified as educationally ‘at risk’ within an identified School

  • e.g. previously NEET, on School Action / School Action Plus, educated at home or in alternative provision, support by YOT, low previous attainment, low literacy and numeracy skills. Looked after/leaving care; in the criminal justice centre, YOT / probation; from alternative provision e.g. PRU; students in crisis e.g. suddenly homeless

2Work under the Behaviour and Support Manager / EBD Lecturers to implement the students’ individual and or group educational support plan in conjunction with the Faculty Area Managers.

3Work under the direction of a member of the teaching staff when supporting within the classroom.

4Develop, in conjunction with the Additional Support Lecturers, subject Lecturers and Faculty Area Managers, strategies and resources for students educationally ‘at risk’.

5Help achieve the learning aims of students, through feedback, review and modification of ILP and /or support plan, and to work towards their retention and achievement of Primary Learning Goal.

6Assist in the differentiation of learning/teaching resources and strategies.

7Undertake necessary administration/tracking systems for ALSAudit compliance – (up to a maximum of 5 hours per week agreed by manager)

8Assist staff and students on a residential project if required - a maximum of one during the year.

9Work in liaison with curriculum staff and follow up/make intervention strategies for learners who are failing to attend/are showing poor attendance patterns.

10Deliver a session at Student Induction on student services and “Be safe – Feel safe”

11Support Students to relevant Student Services e.g. Mental Health and Counselling Support, Student Finance.

12Act as first contact for students who might be subject to possible harm or abuse and support those who are on a CPP or CAF.

13Implement, as appropriate, the College transition programme for learners from a non-traditional educational background.

14Work with The EBD team of Lecturers with learners involved in the disciplinary process

Effectively contribute towards the delivery of a high quality educational experience for all students, delivering services in a way that is appropriate and responsive and which displays the highest standards of customer care.

Observe all college policies / procedures / working practices / regulations and in particular to comply with the College’s Equality and Diversity Policy, Health and Safety Policy, Financial Regulations, Safeguarding Policy and the Code of Conduct.

Undertake appropriate training and staff development.

Effectively manage and develop any staff reporting through to the post holder.

Identify and develop individual contribution in the delivery of the college competency framework.
