If you are not already, we encourage your school to become a “Team Nutrition School”

The policy encourages nutrition education curriculum programs and to provide opportunities for physical activities. The policy also recommends using rewards and incentives that are not food related and limiting sweet treats for refreshments and parties.

Part I: Goals - List your wellness goals for the upcoming school year (additional goals can be added). File a copy under Wellness Policy 2017-2018 and e-mail a copy or send a hard copy to the SchoolWay Café, attention Lindsey Bell and a copy to your Area Superintendent by September15th, 2017.

Part II: Evaluation - Evaluate the outcome of all goals at the end of the school year and e-mail a copy or send a hard copy by June4th, 2018 to the School Way Café attention Lindsey Bell .

Nutrition
We as a school will include nutritional education in the classroom, school way café and special area rotation.
Various staff members will contribute to the school newsletter which will include nutritional information as well has heart healthy recipes to help guide parents in healthy food choices.
The school will display health and wellness posters in a variety of settings to aid in visuals to help create and instill learning opportunities. / □Goal was successfully implemented.

Physical
The school will participate and develop programs that will encourage physical exercise, including “Walk to School Day” and “Bike to School Day”. A bike safety and pedestrian safety unit will be taught in special area classes.
Students and staff will participate in “Jump Rope for Heart” and partner with the American Heart Association to provide educational opportunities to promote and enhance their knowledge of heart health.
Students will participate in fitness testing twice a year. PE coaches will assess students for their overall fitness level by assessing agility, cardiovascular endurance, speed, flexibility, upper-body, lower body and abdominal strength.
The PE portable will be set up to allow staff to work out with various types of equipment/videos after school to aid in their physical fitness. / □Goal was successfully implemented.

Healthy Habits:
Students will have access and students will be provided opportunities for hand washing and hand sanitizing. Students will be educated on the importance of clean hands especially before eating and after using the restroom.
Students will participate in the Healthy Flu Mist and Dental Sealant free programs as well as the health screenings provided by VCS.
Teachers will display and educate on “Cover Your Cough” and “Clean Hands” by displaying posters in classrooms and around the school. Staff will emphasize the importance of good hygiene.
Drug/alcohol/tobacco education will be provided to students by the staff and emphasized throughout the school year. / □Goal was successfully implemented.
