BUSINESS SECTOR ADVOCACY CHALLENGE (BUSAC) FUND

Concept Note Form ‘B’ - Freestyle Concept Note Template

(Maximum 5 pages)

INSTRUCTIONS

The Freestyle Concept Note has eight sections:

  1. Background information on the issue;
  2. Problem statement;
  3. Proposed solution;
  4. Target(s) of action (Stakeholders to target for the advocacy);
  5. Proposed activities;
  6. Expected final result;
  7. Duration;
  8. Budget.
  1. Background

This section should provide a brief introduction to the current situation related to the issue being highlighted by the Private Sector Organisation (PSO). The background should also highlight what the association has done in the past with regards to advocacy.

  1. Problem statement

Under this section, clearly state what the problem is. What is the current situation that you believe is adversely affecting the business operations of your members and others operating in that sector?

  1. Proposed Solution

How does the organisation propose to resolve the problem identified? State clearly the solution that you envisage will address the problem identified.

  1. Target(s) of Action

Indicate the name of the institution(s) that you have identified, which could act to resolve the identified problem. State clearly how the identified institution(s) can resolve the problem identified and why you think the identified institution(s) is in a position to resolve the identified problem.

  1. Proposed Activities

Clearly explain the activities to be undertaken concisely; stating clearly how they will be carried out.

  1. Expected final results

When the problem is resolved, how will it affect the businesses of your association members and their businesses in that sector to ensure their growth and profitability?

  1. Duration

Estimate how long it would take to implement the action. Be realistic in the estimate, and remember that the longer the action takes it can become stale. People tend to lose interest when it becomes stale. You also do not have much control over the external organisations that you will be targeting by this action, especially when the activities of your action are delayed. Actions that are also rushed are not likely to be effective.Try and balance these to arrive at a realistic estimation.

  1. Budget

Provide the estimated cost of implementing the action, taking into account all activities aimed at successful implementation of the action.

The association will be required to contribute to the total budget of the advocacy action. State how much the association has to contribute to the action. The minimum is at least 10% for Window 1 and 20% for Windows 2, 4 and 5.

On the Cover Page of your proposal, kindly indicate the Window being applied for along with the name of the Association, the advocacy title and contact persons of the Association.
