United States History Movie Permission Slip

We will be viewing various movies this semester to illustrate certain time periods and events that took place throughout history. Below there is a short description of each movie that we will be watching during class. There will also be questions that the students will answer during and after the movies. If for some reason you do not want your son/daughter to view any of these movies they will be given an alternative assignment and sent to the library. If students do not return this permission slip by the assigned date they will be sent to the library.

Unit 3: Imperialism and World War I

Movie: War Horse (2011)

Rating: PG-13

Description: Albert has a deep bond with his horse Joey. So when the animal is sold to the British Cavalry, the boy also enlists in the World War I effort, in the hopes of saving his equestrian friend. The movie depicts the era known as the roaring twenties and illustrates the extravagant and indulgent lifestyles people pursued which ultimately led to the Great Depression. Unit 6: World War II

Movie: Red Tails (2012)

Description: Segregation between blacks and whites is alive and well during WWII. But a crew of African American pilots is about to get their chance to put their lives on the line and show what they can do when Col. A.J. Bullard takes the lead. This movie explores the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen and their various contributions throughout World War II, and the movement they helped pave following the war regarding Civil Rights.

Description: Jackie Robinson was the first colored baseball player to sign with a white team. Named after his jersey number,42follows the true story of this history making athlete and the struggles he endured during this sensitive time in United States History. Unit 9: Vietnam and Counterculture
