Duration: 3:00 minutes

Description:

The material consists of interviews with:

·  Agata Hinc, Shell Poland spokesman,

·  Krzysztof Banasik, team manager of SKAP 2 from Warsaw University of Technology

·  Paweł Leoniuk, representative of EKO TEAM from Military Technical Academy

They all talk about the Shell Eco-marathon Europe 2015. Thirty years of technological innovation, outstanding achievements and once-in-a-lifetime experiences mark a significant milestone in what is one of the most challenging engineering student competitions, Shell Eco-marathon Europe. 230 student teams from 30 countries throughout Europe and beyond are invited to Rotterdam from 21-24 May to push the boundaries of energy efficiency on the road.

The competition serves as a platform for students to test vehicles that they have designed and built themselves. The teams are challenged to drive as far as possible on the equivalent of 1 kWh or 1 litre of fuel.

“Shell Eco-marathon is a global competition for students and engineers from around the world, which has been realizing with success for 30 years. Later, the competition moved to other continents like America or Asia. This year it will take place for the last time in Rotterdam. More than 30 countries will be represented in Rotterdam at the end of May…also 11 teams from Poland. They will compete in two categories. First category is called prototype. In this category the most important thing is to drive as far as possible on the equivalent of one liter of fuel. The second category is the category called “Urban Concept”. In this category we also care about energy efficiency and measure distance drove on a one liter of fuel. But there are very important also other elements. For example: a driver must sit in a sitting position, the car must have mirrors, horn and wipers”.

“I think the revolution that we started will allow us to look at fuel in the other way than just in terms of division on gasoline and diesel. Each year, Shell scientists are testing the various kinds of special additives that have improved combustion efficiency and engine protection. I believe premium fuels that Shell has introduced shows the greatest technological development that improves car security as well as increase vehicle efficiency”.

“Over the last four years, we introduced a number of changes in our vehicle. First of all, we used hybrid drive, that is we used both the combustion engine and an electrical engine. Another improvement is the descent of weight. We cut off the excess weight in places where it is possible. Our dream is to cross the boundaries of 400 kilometers on one liter of fuel. Our second goal is to use technology that will in future be used to build urban concept vehicles.”

“We start in the Prototype category. Our vehicle is an innovative because it does not apply in the future as a vehicle to travel in it on the road. It is a vehicle quite futuristic. We applied lightweight construction - aluminum frame with durable aluminum alloy. We used electric motor and lithium-phosphorus battery. Last year, we started in the same competition and reached a score of 80 km for 1 kwh. This year we want to achieve over 200 km.”
