Key Aims of Post / As the Service Manager you will be in charge of the Carers in Southampton service and your key responsibilities will be to plan, budget, oversee and document all aspects of the service. You will work closely with senior management to make sure that the scope and direction of each element of the service is on schedule to meet targets. You will line manage a team of staff to achieve the key performance indicators of the service.

Annual Leave: / Annual leave starts at 28 days per annum plus bank holidays. Entitlement rises by an additional day after 2 years and a further day after 5 years of continuous service.

SERVICE MANAGER – JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties:

  1. GENERAL
  • Take overall leadership in providing vision and direction for the ‘Carers in Southampton’ service in order to provide an effective service to carers of people with a wide range of needs living in Southampton.
  • Lead, motivate and support thestaff team and manage all HR processes in line with the policies and procedures of the organisation.
  • Meet regularly with No Limits, YCIS Lead to monitor, progress, offer support, and share ideas for development
  • Form positive and active partnerships with leading organisations, particularly targeting those dealing with older people, GP Surgeries, Primary Care Teams, the voluntary sector.
  • Manage initial referrals regarding older carers and where necessary disseminate information to the relevant Information or Link Worker Teams or to the Assistant Manager.
  • Maintain an overview of the Carers Card, Carers Strategy and Carer Friendly Initiatives, including offering advice and support in theirexecution.
  • Lead on the planning of external events and support activities, including national campaigns, within the community.
  • Keep updated on national, regional and local policy and how this impacts on the service and lead on the organisation of 2 half day sessions each year to address specific areas for development.
  • Identify and seek external funding to develop provision in line with identified need.
  • Manage the process for recruiting/ inducting/supporting volunteers, including social work students, to achieve the identified targets set.
  • Lead an annual training day to agree the development programme for the delivery of an efficient first-class service
  • Organise the rota amongst the team for holding the out of hours’ emergency planning service number, acting as the back-up where necessary.
  1. MONITORING AND EVALUATION
  • Monitor that the service’s key performance indicators are being met
  • Work in partnership with commissioners to ensure that the required information on service performance and outputs is available to them
  • Work within available resources, budget constraints and guidelines
  • Work closely with the Assistant Manager to ensure quality and performance management systems are implemented
  • Ensure thatan annual evaluation is conducted on service delivery amongst all stakeholders to ensure identified targets are being met and use findings to recommend service improvements to the Mencap CEO and Executive Board.
  1. OTHER
  • Maintain a professional approach and raise awareness to the work of the organisation amongst other agencies
  • Produce reports, briefing papers etc.
  • Attend meetings, conferences to represent the Carers service
  • Be part of the Mencap Senior Management team and contribute to wider organisational developments as required
  • Represent Southampton Mencap in the absence of the CEO as requested
  • Implement and promote the organisation’s Equality and Diversity Policy
  • Work with due regard to Health & Safety
  • Carry out all necessary administrative tasks related to the role including other related duties as required
  • Participate in regular supervision with the Mencap CEO
  • Undertake any reasonable task assigned by the Mencap CEO or Executive Chairman

Skills:-

  • Management qualification or proven experience in managing staff
  • Experience of recruiting and managing volunteers desirable
  • Administrative and IT skills, and an ability to maintain records and produce clear written and oral reports
  • Experience of working across different sectors and developing links with other agencies
  • A clear understanding of confidentiality and knowledge of data protection legislation desirable
  • E literate and highly competent in:-
  • MS Word – good working knowledge of producing documents and e mails
  • MS Powerpoint – ability to create good presentations
  • MS Excel – ability to create Excel formulas enabling manipulation and dissemination of information
  • MS Outlook – good working knowledge of Outlook, managing emails, calendar appointments and contacts
  • Using a database and an understanding of social media and supporting others as required in this area.
