Quick Pillowcase for 12x12 pillow

For this pillowcase, use one fashion fabric for the body, the same or a different fashion fabric for the cuff, and narrow accent strip of a contrast fabric. Our kit also includes a blank name tag.

Body:27”x14”Cuff:27”x6”Accent: 27” long strip folded in half lengthwise (RS out) to width of ½”- 1 ¼” wide.

Lay out body. Pin/place accent strip across the bottom of the body matching raw edges. Check to see if your fabric has a directional pattern. “Up” should be away. “Down” should be attached to the accent.

Lay upper edge of cuff (RS down) on the accent strip, matching raw edges. Cuff and body will be right sides together with accent sandwiched between.

Pin layers together matching the raw edges carefully.

Sew all three pieces together. If your accent strip is narrow, use a narrow, very even seam.

Lay out the joined strips in front of you with the new seam nearest yourself, having the body WS up and the cuff on the bottom of the stack. At the far edge of the body, begin rolling up the pillowcase toward yourself. Roll up the whole body ‘til you are a few of inches from the seam. Now you’ll have a 27” wide cuff (RS up) on the bottom, then the accent strip (which you can’t see) and on top a 27” long roll of body (RSout). Bring the far edge of the cuff up over the roll and match the cuff’s remaining raw edge to the raw edges of the seam. Pin. Stitch or serge the new seam to enclose the rolled body inside the cuff. (The cuff will be WS out.) Make sure the second seam is wide enough to cover/hide the first seam.

Press/steam this seam to set the stitches nicely.

Pull the rolled body out of one end of the cuff. Unroll the body. Press/steam the cuff again so that the accent shows nicely, and the back side is smooth.

Fold the fabric in half (RS together) making it look like a pillowcase. The ends of the cuff will meet. Trim sides to an even 13 ½” width.

Put the blank name tag on the cuff so that the end of it will get caught as you serge the sideseam. Startserging at the cuff. Then, sergethe end seam. Bury the thread tails with a double eyed needle.

Press the new seams Turn pillow case RS out. Use point turner to make corners sharp/square.

Ta Dah!! Congratulate yourself and show off your new little pillow case.

Note: Measurements for standard size pillow case: Width is 41” (or width of fabric) for all pieces.
