Position description:

  • These are full-time, two-year faculty appointments.
  • These appointments are not tenure-track, but Presidential Fellows are eligible to apply for tenure-track faculty positions that may become available at the College during or at the expiration of the Fellowship term.
  • The appointment will be within one of the academic departments of the College. Applicants and nominees are expected to indicate the department that best fits their educational background and teaching and scholarly interests.
  • Appointments may be divided among two departments if appropriate.
  • Departments will review all applications and nominations, and will recommend appointments to Deans Council, which will interview finalists and make hiring recommendations through the Provost to the President.
  • The terminal degree in the Presidential Fellow’s discipline must be conferred by August 1, 2008.
  • Fellows will teach 5 courses per academic year, engage in scholarship and creative activity, and mentor students. Other service commitments (e.g., committee assignments and administrative obligations) expected of regular faculty will be minimal.

Application/nomination procedure:

  • Review of applications and nominations will begin December 1, 2007 and will continue until the Presidential Fellows for 2008-10 are named.

Applications and nomination packages consist of a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae, and names and full contact information (including email address) of four professional references. An official copy of the transcript from the college or university from which the terminal degree was granted is also required. The letter of interest will describe the candidate’s interest in the Presidential Fellows program, how the candidate’s teaching and scholarly interests will enhance diversity at SUNY Brockport, indicate the department in which appointment is preferred, list courses currently offered by the department that the candidate is prepared to teach, and describe research, scholarship and creative accomplishment goals for the two-year appointment.
