We are looking for a professional and enthusiastic, seasonal asphalt raker, to work full-time in various locations throughout southern Alberta. Expected start is between April and May, but is dependent upon weather.

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Paving Forman, the Asphalt Rakerredistributes the asphalt mix correctly as it leaves the screed and prepares it for rolling. As a member of the paving crew, the asphalt raker is responsible for raking asphalt, shoveling excess asphalt, sweeping up debris, and a variety of labour related duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Spread asphalt with a rake using efficient techniques and maintaining a good pace.
  • Employ an asphalt rake to re-distribute asphalt mix leaving the screed in preparationfor rolling
  • Shoveling excess asphalt, and sweeping up debris.
  • Responsible for the proper match points and limits of asphalt mix adjacent to concrete structures, manholes, water valves and other fixtures within the road surface.
  • Using an asphalt rake, blend and level any seams in the mat, reducing visible marks and seams in the asphalt surface.
  • Assist the screed operator with the even distribution of asphalt materials over the road surface.
  • Shovel asphalt mix into areas inaccessible to paving machines, and compact mix using rakes and hand tampers.
  • Operate equipment, such as pneumatic hammers, vibrators, tampers, and skid steer when needed.
  • Train new employees in the safe and efficient operation of the Paver.
  • Operate other heavy equipment and other construction related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCE

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience within the road construction industry,2 years’ experience as an asphalt raker.
  • Knowledge of base construction methods, road construction materials, heavy equipment operationand industry requirements.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 kg on a regular basis.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Willing to work out of town and in remote locations, as required; willing to work overtime, as required.
