Determiningpassmark / IntheassessmentoftheMScassignment,twomarkswill bedetermined:
(i)Onegradecoversthequality ofthe physical aspectsandtheresearchperformance,
(ii)Onegradecoverstheotherobjectives,concerningtheoralandwrittenreportingaswellasothergeneralaspectsoftheresearch.
Foreachmarkadistinctcoursecodehasbeenassigned.Theassignmentcanonlybefinalizedwhenbothgradesaresix (6)orhigher.

Courseinformation
TheindividualMScassignmentcomprisesthecompletion ofthemasterprogramAppliedPhysics.Themain objectiveoftheassignmentisthatthestudentlearnsandprovesthat(s)heisableto define,perform, completeandreflectonaresearchprojectintheappliedphysicsdomain withalargedegreeofindependence.
TheassignmentisperformedinoneoftheresearchgroupswithintheApplied Physicsdomainofthefaculty ofScienceandTechnologyoftheUniversityofTwenteunderthesupervisionofaresearcherwithadoctorsdegree andtheresponsibilityofaMScGraduation Committee.
Theassignmentcanbeperformed(partially)withinaresearchgroupoutsidethedomain ofApplied
Physicsoranexternalinstituteororganization.Thisneedsthe approvalofthemasterexaminationcommitteeofAppliedPhysics.
CourseContent
Thestudenthastoperformasubstantialresearchordesignprojectthatmeetsscientificcriteria.Thelevel ofprofundity and complexityisdefinedby thechairof theMScgraduationcommittee.Thestudentcompletestheassignmentwitha writtenreport(theMScthesis)andanoralpublicpresentation.
Inthe masterassignment,theprogramme'sobjectivesaremet,withfocuseson acquiring mostofthelearningoutcomesofthecompleteprogram:
- athoroughknowledgeofthebasicphysicsandmathematicstheories;
- amorein-depthknowledge ofoneormoresub-areas ofphysics;
- knowledgeofphysicaltechnology,includingskillindesigningandapplyingmeasuring equipmentandexperimentaltechniques;
- orientationintheapplicationareasofappliedphysics;
- insightintohowthesciencesareinterconnectedandthe relationbetweenscienceandsociety andtheresultingresponsibilities;
- skillssuchasbeingabletoacquireknowledgeindependently; beingabletocontributecreativelyandsystematicallytosolvingissuesrelatingtothesubject area;beingabletoworkwithcolleagues;
