Step Two – Plan a reading schedule for your novel. Make sure you give yourself enough time to complete the project, not just the reading. Consider your timing last month when planning your reading for this month. Note: You will be required to do more reading at home due to Thanksgiving break.
How many pages should you read each week to stay on track? ______
Step Three – Think about the theme, main events, and the main characters’ in your story.
Please feel free to use as much creativity as you’d like when creating this project, but remember, this is the student’sproject. If you need help with supplies, please let me know as early as possible.
Here is what your book should include:
- Book Template:
Your book needs to be put together in a way that resembles a children’s book. It should be no larger than a 12 x 18 inch paper. Your book must be assembled/decorated in a way that represents the book, but do not limit yourself to stapling blank pages together. Feel free to get creative and use materials other than paper, crayons and colored pencils. The elements required below should be included in your book.
- Cover Page:
Your book should have a cover page. This will include the title of your book, the author’s name, and your name. It should also include an illustration.
- Back Cover:
- Your book should include a back cover page. On it should have a summary of your children’s book. This should give the audience a glimpse of what the book is about while grabbing their attention. An illustration is needed on this page.
- Story
- Your story needs to include the plot of your novel. Be sure to include the problem and resolution. You will have to condense the information, retelling only the main events. The story needs to be broken up appropriately on each page, and written in complete, 6th grade level sentences. Your book should be the appropriate length, so as you retell, do it with language that would appeal to the intended age group of your story, but also be detailed enough to hold their attention. This information can be written or typed, but should be done in a way that represents the style of the book.
- Illustrations:
- Each page should have an illustration that correlates with the information given. All of the illustrations should be hand drawn, painted, etc., avoid using clip art.
Step Four - You will present your children’s book to your classmates the day it is due.
Parents,
Please acknowledge below that you have read over these instructions with your child, and you are aware of the novel they are reading for this month. Thank you!
