Class Description

This is a High School Physical Science class that will include topics from chemistry and physics. Students have the opportunity to earn high school credit; therefore, a state mandated End Of Course Test (EOC) will be given in May. The EOC will be 20% of the student’s final grade. Students will also take the 8th grade EOG (GA Milestones End of Grade Assessment) in April. This is a yearlong course.

Specific units of study for Physical Science include:

·  Characteristics of Science

·  Matter and Solutions

·  Heat, Temperature, Phases of Matter

·  Atomic Structure, Periodic Trends, Radioactivity

·  Chemical Bonding and Naming, Chemical Reactions, Acids and Bases

·  Force and Motion

·  Work and Power/ Transformations of Energy

·  Waves: Sound, Light, Wave types and characteristics.

·  Magnetism and Electricity: magnets, electricity/circuits, and electromagnetism.
