JOB TITLE: Specialist Oncology Pharmacist

LOCATION: Cancer Centre London Parkside

49 Parkside, Wimbledon SW19

HOURS OF WORK: Part-time/Full time

RESPONSIBLE TO: Clinical Services Manager (CSM)

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Cancer Services Manager

PROFESSIONAL ROLES:

·  Undertake all aspects of CCL Pharmacy Services

·  Prioritizing and planning of daily workload

·  Supporting CSM in strategy for future pharmacy services

LIAISES WITH:

The post holder works closely with the following:

·  Clinical Services Manager

·  CCL pharmacy team & Senior Oncology Nursing teams

·  Cancer Services Manager & CCL healthcare team including, consultants, RMO, IT and other key personnel

·  Aspen hospital managers, PH manager, Pharmacy and oncology multi-disciplinary team at Parkside Hospital

·  Aspen HO personnel as appropriate

MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE POST

Provide professional input into all clinical projects:

- day to day oncology pharmacy activities

-  Undertake all duties with regards to Mosaiq electronic prescribing system including training of medical staff

-  Support validation and verification of electronic protocols

-  Help develop guidance in all aspects of APAS, Ascribe and Mosaiq

-  Clinical guidelines – work with key stakeholders to update as necessary clinical guidelines for MAC approval

-  Help support the development of oral chemotherapy dispensing services

- Support all clinical governance and audit development at CCL

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.  Professional and Clinical role within the Oncology Pharmacy Services

1.1  Support the Clinical Services Manager and Oncology clinical team in co-ordination of all aspects of oncology pharmacy aseptic and clinical work and Cancer services at CCL.

1.2  Support the CSM in the day-to-day running of the oncology clinical services in accordance with standard operational procedures, local and national guidelines and all legislation.

1.3  Maintain approved standards and high quality of services. Develop services in accordance with strategic plans agreed with the CSM and Cancer Services Manager.

1.4  Support the development and expansion of patient focused oncology pharmacy service developments, clinical guidelines and audit in line with strategic plans for the Cancer Services at Parkside.

1.5  Support the CSM in managing budgets and resources relevant to clinical project work.

1.6  Undertake training in all IT and practical aspects of safe, effective prescribing, ordering and administration of chemotherapy.

2.  Oncology Pharmacy developments

2.1  Co-ordinate and support all clinical oncology pharmacy service developments

2.2  Support new clinical developments for chemotherapy and development processes and plans for all new electronic prescribing initiatives.

2.3  Co-ordinate with the CSM the introduction of all new clinical care plans in accordance with project development.

2.4  Ensure all procedures are updated regularly in response to changes as a result of clinical project introduction and ensure they are in line with policy and legislation changes. Be responsible for supporting the training and informing staff of these changes.

3.  Clinical staff education and training

3.1  To ensure all relevant clinical staff are informed and trained in all aspects of oncology pharmacy services.

3.2  Support prescribing pharmacists and oral chemotherapy clinics within the dept.

3.3 To support the planning of programmes and participate in the education and training of other healthcare professionals, with reference to clinical aspects of the oncology pharmacy service and clinical information systems related to cancer services at CCL.

4. Additional Responsibilities

4.1 Support the production of regular monthly reports on all financial and strategic projects

4.2 Take part in clinical records, audit, DUR and pharmacoeconomic project work

4.3 To respond appropriately to requests from pharmacy, medical and nursing staff for information and advice about CCL oncology pharmacy developments

4.4 To support the implementation of new chemotherapy proformas, and associated references, evidence, validation and verification.

4.5 To contribute to the development and expansion of the service and train staff in new initiatives as a result of clinical project development

4.6 Undertake any other duties as requested by the CSM. Such other duties may be required from time to time and are consistent with the post.
