This section of the Portfolio tool allows you to track and organize your career exploration and preparation activities.
On the Main page, click on the Portfolio button in the top menu bar and log into your portfolio.
Career Clusters
You can use this section of the portfolio to indicate which career clusters interest you and record your thoughts on why the cluster appeals to you and how it will inform your career decisions and preparation.
Click on the blue Career Preparation button on your portfolio homepage. Select Career Clustersfrom the submenu.
Step 1. Read through the list of career clusters, including the two cluster matches suggested by your Career Matchmaker session. Click on a cluster titleto view a list of occupation profiles that belong in that cluster. (Clicking on one of the suggested clusters will display a list of careers from your Matchmaker suggestion list that are included in that cluster.)
Step 2. In the Comments area, record what you like about this cluster and why, and any other details that are important. For example:
Cluster:Medical & Health
Comment:I think there are a number of medical specialty careers in this cluster that would be suitable for me because I enjoy caring for people and learning about health and wellness.
Step 3. Once you have entered your comments, click the greySave button at the bottom of the page.
Career Planning Activities
The purpose of this section of the portfolio is to record career planning activities that you have already completed or are involved in currently.
Click on the blue Career Preparation button. Select Career Planning Activities from the submenu.
Step 1. Select an activity that you have completed or are involved in from the dropdown menu. Record the organization name in the space provided.
Step 2. Fill in the start and end dates (month and year) for that activity.
Step 3. Record what you did, what you learned from that activity, new skills you acquired, and any other important information in the Description area.
Step 4. Attach any related files by clicking on the blue Attach File link.
Step 5. Click the grey Save button. The activity will then be listed at the bottom of the page.
Step 6. Continue to add other career planning and exploration activities you have completed, as you did before.
You can edit and delete your activities once they have been saved by clicking on the appropriate icon. Be sure to save any changes you make!
Post-Secondary Plan
This section of the portfolio brings together all of the activities you have done into a plan for post-secondary education.
Click on the blue Career Preparation button. Select Post-Secondary Plan from the submenu.
Step 1.By now, you have probably looked at a number of careers in Career Cruising and in other career exploration activities. Select one or two cluster interests or careers that you are really interested in pursuing. Click on the greySave & Continue button under the list of careers to add the careers to your list.
Step 2. Select the level of education you plan on pursuing to meet your career goals. Then select the schools that you would seriously want to attend. Click on the Save & Continue button under the list of schools.
Step 3. What sources of funding are you going to need in order to pay for your post-secondary education? Select the options you will pursue.
Step 4. Click the greySave button at the bottom of the page.
Career and Life Goals
Here you can record your short and long term goals. Click on the blue Career Preparation button. Select Career and Life Goals from the submenu.
Step 1. Describe the goals that you have for the immediate future in the Short Term Goals section. If you want to see sample goals, click on the Example link.
Step 2. Describe the goals that you want to achieve over a longer period of time in the Long Term Goals section. If you want to see sample goals, click on the Example link.
Step 3. When you have entered your thoughts, click the grey Save Goals button.
Finally...
If you are going to work on your portfolio right now, continue to Activity #7. If you want to work on your portfolio later, log out now by clicking on the grey Portfolio Logout button.
